Hi all! We have been experiencing an issue on site where threads have been missing the latest postings. The platform host Vanilla are working on this issue. A workaround that has been used by some is to navigate back from 1 to 10+ pages to re-sync the thread and this will then show the latest posts. Thanks, Mike.

I've decided to buy a banjo, having played guitar for years. Is there anyone here who plays? Should I be looking to get a 4/5/6 string to start off? Any brands to go for/avoid?

For a starter Banjo there are three brands to look at.

    1. Deering - Waltons / Soundshop in Drogheda
    2. Cort - Dublin Guitar Centre / X Music
    3. McBrides - Any Localmusic stockist and Waltons.

    Best of luck

Thanks for that. I'm starting from scratch but would ultimately be interested in maybe trying some bluegrass - should I be looking at a 4 or 5 string? Does it matter?

    Hi irol.

The most popular banjo type, worldwide, is the 5 string, or G banjo. These are ideal for bluegrass and most other styles. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=oP31xrg05No

The 4 string (tenor) banjo is used predominantly in Irish/Celtic traditional music and is therefore more popular here. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=PjehssyJVVw

If you are interested in learning bluegrass, I would recommend the 5 string, but if you have any questions regarding either type, please don't hesitate to PM us or email dublinguitarcentre@gmail.com
