I've moved into a new house that doesn't have a phone line (and never has) and was wondering if anyone could advise on the best type of broadband to get without a phone line. Also, is there any broadband that if I do need to get a phone line installed but wont have to pay a monthly land line rental fee?

All land lines have line rental, you can't avoid that. Only way to go would be cable or wireless. You need to find out what's actually available where you are before looking for a recommendation. No point in me telling you to go with Metro or UPC if neither is available.
