Hi all! We have been experiencing an issue on site where threads have been missing the latest postings. The platform host Vanilla are working on this issue. A workaround that has been used by some is to navigate back from 1 to 10+ pages to re-sync the thread and this will then show the latest posts. Thanks, Mike.

BMW 318d Speedo in MPH ex UK.

    Guys
Last month I purchased an E90 '09 BMW318d (ex UK car) from a non-BMW Irish main dealer (Toyota) with a speedo in MPH.....
I want it changed to a KPH one for a few reasons - mainly resale and now used to KPH limits etc....
What are my best options....(leave as is is not one of them !)
    (a) Is there a card available which replaces the circular current MPH dial?
    (b) Do I have to replace the whole speedo/rev.counter/computer unit and get the computer unit reset?
    (c) Is it easy to do and has anybody got it done either in a Main BMW Dealer or with anybody else .....€€ cost ??
    (d) Do BMW dealers in Ireland normally do this before selling on all those "yellow plates" that they imported since early'09 ?

Appreciate any help, assistance and advice offered......

Doesn't it have KPH on it also? My UK import does and I see no reason for changing it.

if you're reselling it, it'll be a UK car regardless of what speedo you fit.

It has a KPH inner dial as well surely? It'll be seriously expensive to swap it out.

you are looking at 1200e plus to get the speedo changed to km by the dealer. all the uk sourced BMW's during the sterling exchange thing had a built in budget for the km conversion to be carried out.

Even if you change the speedo, won't the odometer still be in miles?

The odomter is very easy to change to km with software, any BMW with a digital odometer can be changed in seconds.

Yes I am already aware that there is an inner but way smaller KPH dial....and also that the car will be a UK import forever ....
Not too worried about odometer reading miles as I always had my last cars I-Drive settings toread miles/mpg/average speed etc etc.

However....€850-€1200 is prohibitive cost but does anybody know how the procedure is carried out....a card/spped face fitting.....or the whole speed/rev.counter/computer read-out module....

Did BMW dealers actually CHANGE the speedos to KPH on all imported used BMW's ?

You can get E90 speedo/rev counter units on the internet(Ebay) ex Germany

Didn't realise it was this expensive.

I've a jap import Nissan that made it's way through the UK before here and it has a KPH to MPH conversion done on it and it's just a little cheapy looking black box that sits in above my shins out of the way. Converted the OBC to MPH that is, not the speedo. Don't see why anyone would bother with the speedo since it has both readings..

I have the receipt here from the previous owner in a folder somewhere but I'm pretty sure it came nowhere near the money quoted on here.

yes BMW change the whole unit, not just slip a km card in behind the plastic screen.

most of the jap stuff can be done very easily, but it has no reflection on the cost of the BMW unit change im afraid.

It might go against you when selling the car in the future.I know if I was buying a car where the speedo was changed I would be weary (even if it was legit). To be honest I can't see why you should change it.

    +1 to that.

OP you'll just have to put up with it. If someone told me they had changed the clocks in their car I'd get very suspicious.

Besides, the speedo already shows kph.

Its a coded part also, so can only be changed by a BMW Specialist or Approved Dealer.

thers a difference between the old micras without OBC and a nearly new BMW with an OBC that goes off when you sneeze!

This wasn't a micra without an OBC.

I specifically stated a Nissan WITH an OBC in my post.
    It's a 2002 JDM 350z.

But I'm not arguing about the fact BMW is probably going to be more expensive.
