Well we have a conclusion to the Xbox issue, it was indeed a dodgy scart cable. Got a new one in the post today and it works grand.

Silent Scope took me an age to calibrate. There are about a million buttons on the rifle.

It turns out you've to have the brightness on the TV waaaaaaaaaaay up to get it to register the gun's movement properly. Once it's sorted thought it's brilliant.

Ciderdude - it reminded me of your Guncon issues with your Trinitron. Try putting the brightness up to levels that seem stupid (and pretty much wash the picture out completely) just to see if it does anything. Then dial it back a bit.

    Top Tip:

If the parking light goes on your VW Polo, instead of paying the pricey sum of €1-€2 just use a spare LED from your pinball machine. Then kick back and have a cupa tea and roll around in your money!

    They are,
    and that voltage isnt 12!

edit - you'll get away with 12 if you have the right resistor

I think the pinball LED voltage is about 6.3~6.5?
Someone put a 6v bulb into my sisters car and although it didn't blow it got very hot and melted the bulb holder.

Just noticed a comment in that thread about someone hating LED mods.

Are LEDs to pins as LCDs are to cabs? :pac:

  • Registered Users Posts: 5,790 ✭✭✭Jack burton

Ah not as clear cut, of course everyone has their opinion but LEDs are pretty good.

They dont use as much power, run cooler, brighter, more colours (aswell as a white that actually white) last longer etc.

i'd say 90% of games that have been restored or serviced will have LEDs in them somewhere

    LCDs are the devil!

Some people make a mess using coloured leds.
The dont fade in and out like bulbs either .
    This reminds me,
fitted a new woofer in WhiteWater and Getaway tables.
As you can see the one in the getaway was a bit rough

I agree with keith, I did a cp printed before and turned out pretty good. Printer named some vinyl they use on floor or something but I forget it was a few years ago

Sorry should have mentioned, i have Silverline overlay to go on over it.

What to put under it to future proof?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 4,146 ✭✭✭CathalDublin

Tallaght powdercoating would probably powder coat it cheap enough
    Otherwise
    Prime
    Sand
    Prime
    Sand
    Prime
    Sand
    Paint
    Sand
    Paint
    Sand
    Paint

I wouldnt bother spraying it if i was putting that over it. just sand it down, clean it off and put the overlay on. I never painted any of mine if they where being covered over.

Putting the overlay on i use a spray bottle with water and a drop of washing up liquid, spray the back of the sticker and put it on. then i have one of these (Link below) i got off a friend of mine that works in a printers, he uses these the whole time they do huge wall murals and this is how they apply them. use this to rub out any bubbles under the sticker. because its wet underneath you can move it around and re-apply it if needed.

I usually line it up then with a blade cut holes where the buttons and joystick go so i can rub the bubbles out at the these holes too if needed.

    Thanks Guys,

Just worried that for longevity the underside will rust like the previous one that was there.

I'll see can I get it over to Tallaght Powder Coating and get a price. Definitely not doing it manually Cathal as mentioned :O

And Keith that looks great now, thanks for the Squidgey tips.

Did i make the overlay or metal control panel?
Got the metal bent to the same size and shape of previous CP for €10 then drilled myself using template. Will look good hopefully when i get overlay on.
Should have went with better joysticks/buttons. Virgin decisions.

    looks the bizz,
Did they weld on joystick mounts or are you going to bolt on?

No joystick mounts, any thoughts on that?
I was going to counter sink but its thin metal.

Yes plastic buttons was a bad choice. Lesson learned, not difficult to change.

    I'd mark the spots,
    drill the holes
put the bolts in from the top then mig weld them in on the top.
the grind them off with a grinder.
bit of work but its worth it!

Urbanledges method is probably the simplest and strongest solution - if you've access to a welder that is.
