Further proof we don’t need a mayor if you ask me!

Having a moyor is an absolute waste of money. can some one tell me exactly what the wage for the mayor is i know its considerably higher than that a councillor.

I actually saw a letter for the mayor before and it said 'his worship the mayor' I nearly got sick!!

I say we sell the chains to 'cash for gold' put the proceeds to something useful.

I’m sure the mayor had some important jobs to do but sure I reckon we can just send all the kids who didn’t miss a day of school all year a letter or cert from Santa instead!

I see the People's Mayor was on the biggest junket of all. Nice little earner, 100k + a year and the car thrown in.

Socialist my arse. Principles out the proverbial window.

    Socialism in Ireland! Bah! Rubbish!

After seeing that former PD(right wing)Mae Sexton join labour(left wing) how can anyone say its nothing more than populace politics that is played in this country.

Why do these people get into politics in the first place?

I wouldn't say everyone gets involved just before of the "perks", to be fair. You will find a lot of people do it because they like politics, like representing people and helping their locals.

The fact that some of them are the highest paid in the developed world. i'm sure don't encourage them...

Surprised we haven't seen anyone doing it on a voluntary basis if that is the case

There are. You hardly think everyone involved in politics is paid? Pretty much everyone around election time volunteers their own time.

How many councillors do we have in Ireland? Is it 1,500? We could reduce that number by half. What a waste of money paying their salaries, expenses, allowances, gold plated pensions aye. Also why do we have so many mayors?

I think there is 1,604 councilliors in Ireland, give or take six or seven. This is forever too many. If every Town council was disbanded it would save god knows how much money. Most of them are only gossip shops anyway. I suspect there could be one or two mayors of some of these councils on here who will not be happy that you suggest we have too many. What do most of them do. I would love to know. It would appear from some local papers etc, that the position is a chance to get your photo in the paper on a regular basis over the course of a year. However i suspect we will be told otherwise, and the importance of the position and of these councils will be spelt out loud and clear.

I actually didn't think he was really. If he could be accused of anything, its defending councilors in general. The major is need getting a bit of a slagging here and the chap seems to be staying well clear.
