Hi all! We have been experiencing an issue on site where threads have been missing the latest postings. The platform host Vanilla are working on this issue. A workaround that has been used by some is to navigate back from 1 to 10+ pages to re-sync the thread and this will then show the latest posts. Thanks, Mike.

Does absence of an alarm/immobiliser have an effect on insurance price?

Looking at a car at the moment that has no alarm or immobiliser. I only have a certain budget to work with for the car and insurance price. So just wondering if anyone knows whether the lack of those security items increases the insurance by much? It's just a second run around so i'd be happy with a disklok if the price didn't jump up loads. Thanks.

depends on your insurance company. It usually does affect the price.

I think only your insurance company can answer that with any sort of certainty. Just ring and get a quote for the same car, with and without an alarm/immobiliser. I wouldn't be basing any decisions on what you read here.

any quotes I've seem there have been discounts. However they have only been of the order of 2-3%

Thanks. I'll have to try get a chance to call them up. Was supposed to meet the fella with the car straight after work.

You will need to weigh up the cost benefit of not having one fitted to the any higher insurance premium.

I feel that a immobiliser is good to have as it will stop your car being stolen by the casual theif. I think alarms are pretty useless. Who pays any attention to a car alarm siren?

The best advice is not to leave any valuables visible in your car and your less likely to get a window smashed. If you do leave something visible, then an alarm is unlikely to deter a would-be criminal.

I don't think it makes a big different. Try getting an online quote with and without.
