Hi all! We have been experiencing an issue on site where threads have been missing the latest postings. The platform host Vanilla are working on this issue. A workaround that has been used by some is to navigate back from 1 to 10+ pages to re-sync the thread and this will then show the latest posts. Thanks, Mike.

getting files off WD Passport

    Hi
I have a 500GB Western Digital Passport drive. This is a USB powered external HDD. It fell about 15 inches and I can no longer see the drive on my PC :( .
When I connect, it makes a few whirring noises and there is the standard Windows sound when the drive is connected and disconnected, but I can't see it in Windows Explorer.
I had files on this I would like to get back. How would I mount this in a disk caddy? I don't recognise the pin connectors on the actual drive, but I'm not familiar with them. Serial number search on WD site wasn't recognised.

Any tips on how to get stuff off the drive?

the passport has a USB to SATA adapter when this is removed you will reveal the SATA connecter

Although it sounds like the drive might be unrecoverable as it sounds like it is physically damaged, your only option might be to call a data recovery specialist company, which unfortunately dont come cheap

Data Reco in these cases can cost hundreds or thousands. Really you have to decide how valuable the information is. For a thesis or something; or years worth of family memorables, it may be.

Thanks for replies - I was hoping for a better outcome but drive is borked. Connectors are not SATA - tried that last night. USB connector on PCB blocks off other connectors anyway. I'll return drive under RMA and avoid Passport drives in future - too fragile.

Ive had a good run with them but havent dropped one yet. All down to care tbh. any performance drive would have reacted the same way.
