Hi all! We have been experiencing an issue on site where threads have been missing the latest postings. The platform host Vanilla are working on this issue. A workaround that has been used by some is to navigate back from 1 to 10+ pages to re-sync the thread and this will then show the latest posts. Thanks, Mike.

If you do a quick Google on that filename, you'll see that you're one amongst many who have had this problem previously. As a general rule for the future, however, run a scandisk and disk defrag every month. i've been doing just that religiously since I bought my PC in 2002, and it's still running absolutely great.

People think that they're computers become 'old' and useless, when really all they need to do is look after it.

it's not a file that needs to be deleted or anything then? I was worried it was malware or something??

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 2,980 ✭✭✭Kevster

I briefly looked through those websites (that were brought up in the Google listings) and it seems that this file has been a target for viruses/malware before, but it also seems to go 'nuts' on its own accord. Just have a look through the various websites and learn as much about it as you can.

Some programmes which are good for removing malware manually include HiJack This and XCleaner.

Consider a full reformat of your hard disk, as long as you don't have any hardware problems then your PC will be as good as new.

The steps involved are as follows:

    1. Back up all your data to an external disk (or a seperate partition ie. D: drive if your hard disk is set up that way). You cannot store programs this way.

    2. Get your Operating System CD and boot from it.

    3. Reformat your disk

    4 Re-install your operating system.

5 Restore your data and re-install your programs and you're away!

You've got 2 anti-viruses, Microsoft Security Essentials and F-Secure, 1 needs to go (f-secure if it were me). Uninstall in Add/remove programs

Besides that, You got too many programs launching at startup, download ccleaner and install it (untick where it wants to install a toolbar) and run it. Then You can use it to stop programs launching at startup (tools-->startup) by just clicking disable, reboot and You're done (suggest You disable groovemonitor, java updater and everything Apple, Adobe and Google related, You don't need them starting all the time and they'll still work).

Go to Add/remove programs and remove both the Google and Ask toolbars (they don't do anything but spy on You).

Edit, there's also traces of McAfee anti-virus on that pc, run this
    http://www.softpedia.com/get/Tweak/Uninstallers/McAfee-Consumer-Product-Removal-Tool.shtml

    Do a defrag after.

thanks for that - used c cleaner to disable those listed above, removed those 2 toolbars and McAfee, defrag is working now - just did another HijackThis scan - these are the results:

You still have 2 anti-viruses, remove either f-secure or Microsoft Security Essentials, You can't have 2 they'll conflict and slow Your pc to shít.
McAfee is still there, uninstall it and then run the removal tool
    C:\Program Files\McAfee Security Scan\1.0.150\SSScheduler.exe

Also once all that is sorted get this, install it, update it and run a full scan

Does it feel any faster? Sometimes when Windows gets slow there's no way to bring it back other than a fresh install
