Hi all! We have been experiencing an issue on site where threads have been missing the latest postings. The platform host Vanilla are working on this issue. A workaround that has been used by some is to navigate back from 1 to 10+ pages to re-sync the thread and this will then show the latest posts. Thanks, Mike.

    Hi everyone,

Having driven a car for the last 20yrs I am looking to get my first bike and need some advice.

I have about €5k to spend and ideally I am looking for a bike with panniers and be comfortable on long journeys. I am also in the process of organising lessons.

What should I look out for ? Any pitfalls ?
BTW. Not into the racer style bikes.

    Thanks

I have already seen that model and like the look of it but as it's my first bike I will need to have it restricted and is it too big for a 1st timer ?

Try and find a 700 (actually 680) one.
    They are fuel injected.

Get it restricted - you will not even notice the restriction.

And - they are not too big. They were actually designed and built especilaly for people like yourself.

Great bike, I think it looks good in that colour - I am jealous.

    Well wear.

Two more years till my new bike. :(

    I like the top box.

    Thread resurection!

Just wondering how this OP managed the Deauville with the restrictor?

I'm in a similar situation, car driver for years, got my learners permit, getting lessons and hopefully a test soon and then Id be looking at a Deauville.

    How are you managing?!

Although the OP has a 650, I've a restricted 700, and I find it fine.

I did get to try it unrestricted for a couple of days (on a private track of course :D) waiting for the kit to come in and while it the top end power was reduced day-to-day motoring wasn't affected.

A friend has a restricted 650 and he pretty much felt the same.
