Also want to say a big thanks to Ally for standing in the lashing of rain all that time waiting for me to run past the finish line loop. She definitely deserved the spectator's medal.:D

Super run Aimann. YOu can be so proud of yourself. You stuck to the plan and rolled with the bad times and good times. LOvely steady running You worked hard for this and you deserve every little bit of pleasure and bragging you can squeeze out of this triumph. Loved the report. You made a very very long day seem so easy. But I know thats just to lull the likes of me into a false sense of security , so we will sign up for next year and die in the woods of Portumna :p
There is a great photo of you on the other photos thing...flicker check it out from the link on runireland. I cant get to open these picasa ones

So Anyway, after winning the lotto and spending all that time abroad on exotic islands, I thought it was time to leave the champagne and casinos for a while and come back to Ireland to do a bit of running.

Yeah right, reality check is that I've been a bit of a lazy b*****d and found it hard to motivate myself back into the running since Portumna and neglected the log for a while. Wont shame myself by posting the poor excuses of a couple of runs since then, lets put that behind me and move on.

Monday - 5M along the canal, nothing too taxing 43:27 (8:41 pace, Avg HR 146)

Tuesday - 10 miles around the UCD track (40 laps). Bit of a stitch crept in arounf 7/5 miles, wasnt sure if it was a result of just running around and around. Didnt seem as bad as I thought it would, but I'm sure it gets worse as the hours go by
    10M in 1:25:56 (8:36 pace, Avg HR 154)

Trying to motivate myself into running the Belfast 24hr race in a couple of weeks time (hence the track running today) I'll just have to book the damn thing tomorrow and set it in stone.

No running yesterday, for some lazy reason, but in Cork today with work, so hit the gym this evening.

3M on dreadmill in 23min, (7:40 pace, but wouldn't get too excited about that pace on a machine)

You thinking of not doing the 24 hour now?

  • Registered Users Posts: 3,156 ✭✭✭jcsmum

Don't know how I managed it, but I've only now read your Portuma experience.
What can I say?? What an achievement!
I need to lie down now after reading that and take a nap!! :)

Absolutely Not. I'm signed up for it. Training has been a bit lackadaisical lately, so will be going into it a bit cautiously

Cheers jcsmum, it was definitely a great experience despite the bad weather. What made it more manageable was the layout of the lap and the staggered times of the other races, so the paths seemed busy at times and you get to see familiar faces regularly.

    10M jog about
Went for a bit of a ramble in the sunshine.

    10M in 1:33 (9:22 pace, Ag HR 141, Max HR 160)

  • Registered Users Posts: 2,418 ✭✭✭Aimman

Put a bit more effort in today's run

    7M in 58:18 (8:19 pace, Avg HR 152. Max HR 175)

After 6M, overall pace was 8:25 and brought the speed up quite easily for the last mile to bring overall pace down to 8:19, but didn't have the auto lap function set up properly to look at the stats, but must have run the last mile sub 8.

    4M in 38:34 (9:38 pace) recovery

    simple easy jog out

    5k Race in Irishtown today

Wasnt going out to break any records, because of the lack of training, but it was an excuse to get the ass out and moving quickly, especially after the nightmare of the Phoenix Park 5k a couple of weeks ago.

Just as I set up the Garmin, the battery low alarm came on and was dead just after the first kilometer. At least it was an opportunity to race to how I felt, instead of constantly looking at the watch.

Felt myself fade a bit during the 2nd loop of the park and a few people overtook me but on the 3rd lap, I got my second wind and speeded up, getting past the runners that breezed past me earlier. By the time I got onto the running track, I opened it out and got past a couple more people and for the last 100m, I comfortably went into a sprint and gained another place before the finish line.

I was a bit disapointed in the time however, as it felt like I was doing a better pace in my head. Its a big drop off from Mallow's 10M pace earlier this year

    5k in 23:13 (7.28 pace)

Bit of a recovery run around the off road trails of the Phoenix Park. Took a long time to get properly into the run. Mental endurance is completely gone to shot now, which is the bit I really need for Belfast next Friday. Need to pull something out of the bag in the next week to keep myself going for the 100 miles

    8M in 1:11 (8:57 pace, Avg HR 140)

A more productive run this lunchtime.

    5.1M in 41:21 (8:07 pace, Avg HR 83% Max)

Got the info on Belfast 24hr today and submitted a blurb for the official program. Now I just need to do a supermarket sweep to get the provisions this weekend. where can I get heelies and a headlamp?

I can lend you my head torch if you want. Otherwise you can pick them up in most camping/outdoor shops.

lol, I was joking. Do we really need them? I assumed they were keeping the lights on, otherwise the crew members on the drink wont be able to stagger to the toilets without bumping into the hurdles.

I bought one just before Portumna, but havent got around to using it yet. Might get some funny looks if I wear it our for a trial run in the middle of a bright summer

Well, I was planning on running behind John O'Regan's shoulder for the whole race and then burning him on the last lap, but if you feel you need the company, I'll walk with you for a while.:D

Its a juggling act of running, walking, resting and sleeping. Its a matter of having the 160km target and then figuring out the most likely blend of the four things and still have enough energy for a showcase finish. But I hope to have that finalised by Sunday and have it tatooed on the back of the eyelids. Sure we'll be no further than 200m away from each other, so I'm sure we'll spend a bit of time running together during the day. You'll have a better chance of lapping me in this race.

I watched the video again, probably not the best idea, seeing how people coped / not coped and at least there was pizza, but the music did stop after a while. Think I might have to become the Karaoke Jogger for some of the nighttime running. Have to practice my Chesney Hawkes collection

Haven't factored in eating. I classed gels as drinking. If pizzas arrive during the race, then eating will be a facor :-)
