(Please forgive me if this is in the wrong forum!)
Folks you may have seen a mention in the papers about a charity run a few of us are doing in aid of the Childrens Hospital in Crumlin.
The Irish Steam Engine Owners Association who have been organising
Steam Rallies in Ireland for over 25 years, are about to embark on
their most ambitious journey to date in aid of Our Ladys Hospital for
    Sick Children in Crumlin.
Together with steam engine owners from Britain, the Irish Association are organising a 'Dublin to Cork Road Run' from Saturday May 29th to Saturday June 5th, 2010. The 150 mile trip will see the classic engines visiting many towns along the route including Newbridge, Kildare, Monasterevin, Portlaoise, Abbeyleix, Durrow, Johnstown, Urlingford, Cashel, Mitchelstown, Fermoy, and Cork City. Collectors along the way will happily receive support for Our Ladys Children's Hospital.

The 25 beautifully restored steam engines, which are all over 100 years old, will make their way from Dublin to Cork over a week starting out at 12 p.m. on the 29th May, arriving in Cork on Saturday the 5th June. Full details of the route are available on www.iseoa.com.

The steam engines will create a great spectacle as they make their way south with their towering smokestacks and gleaming body work which has been lovingly restored by their owners. The arrival of these classic vehicles is akin to a circus coming to town with the exciting sights and sounds of the Steam rally. The rally offers communities along the way an opportunity to welcome and celebrate these wondrous feats of human engineering.

The ISEOA are no strangers to fundraising for charity. In 2000 the steam engine enthusiasts raised over €50,000 for the Irish Wheelchair Association.
The 2010 event will benefit from the introduction of all appropriate measures for health and safety as well as detailed planning and liaison with all the Local Authorities and An Garda Siochána.

All Engine Owners are welcome to get involved in the event and the association expects to have over 250 people on board including; engine owners, drivers, helpers, engineers, food caterers, marshals, first aid and lots of entertainment with musicians, singers and a few surprise guests to take the wheels!

Tom Heavey, Editor of the Irish Vintage Scene Magazine and his wife Pauline will also be in attendance. They are avid Steam Engine enthusiasts and they plan on walking the route from Dublin to Cork between May 29th and June 5th next. There aim is to create greater awareness of this unique fundraising event and also to raise funds for the renovation of an old steam engine.
