Passport requirements for the US

Hi, My boyfriend and I are going to America this summer and I know there's some requirement regarding an 'electronic' passport. My boyfriend has a new passport which has an electronic picture capability where they electronicaly scan your profile. Do i need this or is the older one OK?

Your passport just needs to be machine readable (i.e. not handwritten one that sometimes gets issued by embassies abroad). Your passport will be fine, don't forget that you need to fill out ESTA before travelling.
