Hi all! We have been experiencing an issue on site where threads have been missing the latest postings. The platform host Vanilla are working on this issue. A workaround that has been used by some is to navigate back from 1 to 10+ pages to re-sync the thread and this will then show the latest posts. Thanks, Mike.

    Hi All,

I wanted to get in a HDTV with HDMI ports so i can watch movies and live streams from my Laptop on the big screen. Firstly i havent seen this in action, is it as simple as putting in the HDMI wire and your laptop screen appears on the tv?

    http://www.harveynorman.ie/catalogues/view.html?cat=183139v1

I was looking at these two LG tvs on Harvey norman, one is 42" and the other 50", i notice that they dont have full 1080p HD, what exactly does this mean? At the moment im still using standard definition for UPC television so would like to be able to have a tv that could allow me to watch SD, but also watch HD for blu-ray and if i upgrade to HD.

Anyone any advice on this, want to get it sorted before the World Cup, cheers!

That link is gone as harvey norman took down their catalogue, apologies.

The two models i was looking at were LG 42LH3000 & LG 42LH2000.

i think the more expensive one in 1080p, and the other in 720p, again what i wud be worried about is will the more powerful tv show up standard definition programming ok? and will it be as simple as connecting my laptop with HDMI

    cheers

1080p is only really noticeable on 50" and larger TV's. You'd get most benefit on this if using a Blu-Ray player, as these are usually in 1080p quality.

That said, you can still use a 720p/1080i 42" and blu-ray will still play, albeit at a lower resolution. Standard HD TV broadcasts are in 1080i resolution, not 1080p.

My only experience with HD on TV is on a Panasonic Plasma with UPC (NTL/Chorus) and the quality of SD is fine.
