    Insomniac Games, the developers of the Resistance and Ratchet and Clank franchies, has announced that they has signed a deal with EA partners to create a brand new IP for Xbox 360 and Playstation 3. Insomniac are going multiplatform. Minutes ago, they tweeted the following;

    “Insomniac Games is excited to announce that we are working on a new IP, that will be published by EA Partners on Xbox 360 and PS3“

    Rumours have been abound for sometime that Insomniac would start to develop games for non-Playstation platforms. This news confirms that they are to start developing what insomniac’s Ted Price calls;

    “a brand new universe and franchise for you to experience in the coming years.”

    That said, Insomniac have no plans to abandon it’s faithful Playstation audience, Price adds;

    “We know many of you are extremely loyal to the PlayStation family, and especially to Resistance and Ratchet & Clank. We are too. Our relationship with Sony Computer Entertainment is still very strong, and continues as we develop additional projects exclusively for PlayStation 3 – projects that will take full advantage of our additional development time.”

    I really hope it's a 3D platformer 360 is seriously lacking in that department. We don't need another FPS.

    If it is a platformer I can't wait love their humour, character design and story.

    A lot of people think Insomniac are a Sony second party developer but they are actually totally independent but just chose to work on the PS3 exclusively. They could have went fully multi platform any time.

    Sony have a stance on not paying third parties for exclusivity. If the devs make it exclusive it's their choice.

    Seeing the Insomniac logo on the 360 is gonna be just as weird as seeing the Bungie log on the PS3. Can't wait to see what they come up with though.

    There's a very fine line between direct funding and a large amount of first party support. In Insomniac's case I'm quite sure they've gotten an awful lot of the latter over the years.

    Unfortunately, while this means your time in development will be easier, it doesn't translate to increased sales and/or revenue for the developer so it comes as no surprise that they're branching out onto other platforms now.

    Indeed. It's nice to be positive about these things. It's all good news for us, the gaming audience.
