    Cheers bedlam,

i thought i had made it clear i was only talking style -
"I understand im not getting a patek phillippe, IWC, breuquet - but this style is wat i love ".

You nailed it in one, nice chrono & date & automatic of a very decent quality, not an argos special.

Novice is to good a word for me - so i said i come to people who know a lot more then me - i reckon your opinions will be enlightening:D. and much needed.

    cheers

For "classic, special and timeless" you can't go wrong with an Omega Speedmaster. (ref 3570.50)
    http://www.omegawatches.com/gents/speedmaster/professional/35705000

It's a bit over budget €2,810 rrp but it's still fantastic value for money IMO.

Pros: the quintessential chronograph, impressive NASA history worn on every Gemini and Apollo mission, manual wind, no worries with spare parts and servicing as it's Omega's marquee watch.

Cons: Over budget, no date window, hesalite crystal (prone to scratches but polywatch can buff it out).

I wouldn't go buying from a website as there's no official guarantee in case something went wrong. I know Keane's are the only AD in Cork carrying Omega at the moment and you're looking at a 10% discount max. (Omega raised their prices in March tut tut)

An alternative approach is UK non-vat from Heathrow (£1965 or circa €2,300 at current fx rate)

I have one for my 30th in November all lined up.

    Also recommended.

    Tissot Automatic Chronometre

    Longines Silver Arrow

Both resemble Patek's but at a fraction of the exorbitant cost.

I would advise having a look through this site http://dolezno.co.uk/models.php?cat_id=349 some very good prices on there and although they are not official stockists they give their own two year warranty on all watches sold.

You could also go vintage. The calatrava look was popular back in the day. Quite a few 40's and 50's watches followed the look. Only issue being that they tend to be small by todays standards. Grand if you have a small wrist though.

Rejoice in the awareness of feeling stupid, for that’s how you end up learning new things. If you’re not aware you’re stupid, you probably are.
