Hi all! We have been experiencing an issue on site where threads have been missing the latest postings. The platform host Vanilla are working on this issue. A workaround that has been used by some is to navigate back from 1 to 10+ pages to re-sync the thread and this will then show the latest posts. Thanks, Mike.

Broken ignition barrel - '99 Astra Estate MK4

    Hi all,

A few weeks ago I went to start the car and it turned over for a few seconds and then nothing.I suspected something was wrong with the ignition barrel so I managed to remove it and found that the end of it had broken off, about 3mm.

I managed to source a replacement one on ebay for €30.While I was waiting for it to arrive I proceeded to clean out the socket left by the ignition barrel but managed to lock the bloody steering wheel! And to top it off the replacement barrel has the locking clip broken on it so it's of no use.

Could someone give me some advice on how to unlock the steering as I won't be able to get the car towed even now as the wheels are locked to the right.

I'm reluctant to order another barrel at the moment after what happened with the last one I ordered.

Any advice would be most welcome and maybe someone in the Cork City area who could do the job instead?

    cheers,

    carbsy.

Hmmm, I suppose you could break the lock yourself but that sort of carry-on might be best left to joyriders. My own ignition barrel was giving trouble over the cold weather. First two clicks were OK, but the final turn to start was troublesome - I was going to bypass it with a starter button, but seems to be OK now.

    I don't fancy breaking the lock! ;)

    Anyone?
