What happens when the Garda mentioned on a court Summons (ie. the applicant), retires before the case is heard?

If a Garda doesn't turn up aren't the cases normally thrown out, in minor traffic instances?

    Anyone been in that position?

The retired Garda attends court in civilian attire and gives evidence to the fact and includes that he has since retired from the force.
