Engagement Party Outfit help

HI all,

Got engaged last weekend (so unbelieveably surprised and delighted!) Some family would like to throw us an engagement party and I really have nothing to wear. They are going to throw it in their own home but still would like to look my best!
Im 25, 5ft 4, long blonde hair to my waist and blue eyes, size 14 (currently working on that!) and a classic pear shape.


Im terrible at putting together outfits, seriously Im really bad. I would love your suggestions and help and even just point me in the right direction!

There are so many nice styles in the shops now. For a party in your house you could go casual yet stylish - look on www.awear.ie they have lovely tunics that you could put leggings with and wedges. As you're a pear shape get a wide waisted belt to nip in your waist, give an hourglass shape.
Debenhams have some gorgeous chiffon style dresses also that are fab with a belt.

Jasper Conran range in Debenhams have a lovely knee length red shirt dress in a wrap around style - v flattering and colour would be lovely with blonde hair. Dressier than a tunic.

Thanks for your reply, I suppose what I am really looking for is someone to put together a whole outfit for me, Im useless at it, i put the wrong things together or wear the most unmatched jewllery!

How Strange

OP, why not take advantage of a personal shopper in the bigger stores?

They would give you different ideas and may pick out clothes that you mightn't have picked out for yourself.

Also, don't rule out good old Dunnes Stores. I find their clothes are great for pear shapes

You are very welcome, and I agree about the bolero, couldn't find a nicer one online for a pic, but you get the idea, I always like a small cardi over a dress like that to keep warm and make the arms look thinner!
A contrasting colour would work too, purple and pink are nice together. Dunnes have lovely mini purple cardis at the mo for €8!

I deffo think you should wear a dress I was in awear on henry street today at lunch and they have gorgeous stuff in there at the moment. im sure you will find something in there, its hard to say what i think suits you as even though you are a pear shape, different things would suit you as opposed to other pear shapped people. i think you should go shopping with your mam/sis/good friend and just try on different dresses and see what suits ou best

I would definitely recommend going for a personal shopper. Debenhams and Arnotts offer the service. Its free and they really help to put an outfit together and give you great tips on dressing for your shape. Failing that I think Openbake's dress and shoes are fabulous.

This is what I ended up buying - dont know how I feel about it now. they had it in purple too maybe I should have went with that, I seem to always wear dark colours. Anyway I bought it Wed morning, got an email this morning saying it was shipped. I hope its here by Sat I paid for express. How what to do with my hair!??!?

Oh no that one is equally gorgeous! Great choice, love the colour too! Well seeing as the dress is quite sophisticated, I'd be inclined to keep the hair quite understated so's not to be overly formal maybe. Loosely pinned at the front while loose and tousled at the back?
Have you chosen the bag and shoes yet? (You must be so excited!)

Yeah thats a good suggestion with the hair...mine is quite long (have a look at my pics) down to my waist at the longest.

I dont know about the dress now to be honest at all the more I look at it the more I think, being a pear shape, the fabric sweeping at the bottom is going to make my bum and hips look too big? But then I say the one should brings the attention away from it and I have good shoulders and collar bones ....?

if you paid for express and it was supposed to arrive by then complain to asos and they will refund the delivery charge, its happened to me before.

though that doesnt help with your party.. hope you had a good night anyway
