    Hi,
Maybe i'm asking the impossible but one of the In-Laws has asked me to try and source a new or nearly new laptop for less than €250!!

Having looked around it seems only Netbooks available around this price or am I looking in the wrong places? Performance aint an issue, just needs a decent sized screen and wi-fi.

    Thanks in advance :)

I don't know if you'll get a new one for that price, maybe try secondhand. I had been pricing a notebook myself on the Dell website, and it was looking at around €600. Though I wanted a few add ons, like Microsoft Office, and McAfee security. I haven't seen many special offers for notebooks.

Sorry, I see now you are asking about Netbooks, not notebooks. I'm not totally up to speed with all these gadgets, what is the difference between a netbook and a notebook? Obviously I'm familiar with the notebooks as I've been trying to buy one. Are netbooks bigger?

Looking like going to have to go into the second hand minefield so, seriously doubt ill get one that cheap myself, I bleedin' hate gambling!

Good luck! Personally I'd prefer a new one myself, you don't want too much trouble with it.

Unfortunately a while ago I had to pay out about €200 to remove a virus from a brand new laptop, even though I had security on it. So I'd advise you get the appropriate security on the laptop/netbook. It will save you a lot of hassle.

Very nice indeed, have suggested Netbooks but the screens are a little small for a lot of use I fear?

€200 quid to remove a virus. Thats the craziest thing i've ever heard. You were seriously SERIOUSLY done there man.

I picked up one of these last September, very happy with it.

Argos also have other ones for €250

These are netbooks though, so there's a smaller screen (compared to a laptop) and no optical (CD/DVD) drive.

I know technically, you are looking for a large screen, but for under €250 you won't get a new one unless it's dodgy unfortunately. If you can get your in-law to compromise on screen size, this is easily the best value for money i've seen (i plan on getting one myself for my birthday :)) http://komplett.ie/Komplett/product/ZKB_02PC/02_NOTEBOO/05_NOTEBOO/productdetails/10022169/Asus_Eee_PC_1001HA_Black_WINDOWS_7/90OA1WD23111J81E32QQ/default.aspx The only other suggestion i can offer is that i intend to get a job and work towards a desktop/netbook combo for college, and if that happens, i'll gladly sell you my laptop for like €50 or thereabouts (maybe add a teeny bit more for a new keyboard - i'd have to take it apart and fix it up slightly before i'd sell it on and small bits might add €20 or so) but it's not exactly an ideal solution :( (but then again, neither is eBay! some people sell fake laptops by giving each other high ratings and tricking customers out of their money - almost happened to my poor big brother) Either way, good luck with it!

Out of interest does it come with Vista or XP as it doesn't specify on that link? I'd imagine it'd run a lot better with XP
