It all depends on what you'd prefer, everyone has their own favourites.

In terms of boots, adidas and Nike have basically copied each other recently, and their boots are very similar looking.

Try on the boots in the shops and see what feels more comfrotable.

I fing for myself, Adidas Predator have a better fit then Nike Tempo, Nike were tight for me. Puma have a nice fit in Puma Kings.

My advice, try on a few and see what you prefer.

I've always used either Umbro or Adidas.

    Currently Adidas Predator Powerswerve.

I find them a good fit, and comfortable to play in, and I much prefer the blade design over studs.

However, I do find that the rubberised area on the front can rip after a while, so you might go through a few pairs a season. (particularly if you make lots of tackles etc)

Some people like the F-50's, but I find they're very similar to Nike's newer designs.

AdiCORE & AdiPURE are good old fashioned, soft leather football boots, with either studs or blades, and are lightweight, and I would probably chose these for my next pair.

But as was said, go in, pick a few pairs, and try them on. See which fits best and feels most comfortable, and base your decision on that.

Best pair of football boots I ever had were a pair of Asic Gel's. Not sure if they sell them anymore though but I felt they gave me the best ball control, accuracy and stability (when sprinting) - never found a pair of boots since that ever gave me what I got from my Asic Gels :(

Without a shadow of a doubt the best combo of studded and moulded boots I've used are these: (Adidas Predator Absolute TRX & Adidas World Cups) Fantastic boots.

Funny as it is... seriously, Boards.ie is turning into a place where someone cant ask a geniune question without somebody dying to get the first smart answer in, craving a load of thanks.

You know your on an internet message board right?

When you hang out outside of Boards.ie with friends do you find people often maybe a smart/funny comment before serious ones? It's pretty basic in the world of conversations.

Going investing in a pair of Copa Mundials soon.

    Currently wearing these:

Comfortable enough, but found they're a bit wide at the top for my foot.

Do a search online man I'm sure you can - one of the fellas I play football with keeps buying the preds that were out during the 2002 world cup so there's definately a site where you can get them.

Also fairly certain I've seen them in Finns Corner in Cork City recently - although they could be rugby boots - the selection isn't great there tbh

Adidas World Cups, Adidas Copa Mundials and Umbro Speciali

I got them for €40 each, money well spent

You can't go wrong with total 90s, they are very coMfortable, have a pair of blue and navy Nike vapor at the moment, nice but don't offer too much protection

Those new vapors are nice too

Thanks lads Theres a few to think about.

To be honest I haven't played football on grass for years would the blades need getting used to?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 3,822 ✭✭✭Morf

It's going to depend on the shape of your feet and how you run as to which boots will be the most comfortable.

Then you take into account if you want a light boot, a power boot or a touch boot.

All leather boots are usually going to be easiest to adapt to as the leather will stretch to fit your feet.

Then there's the matter of aesthetics. What i think is good-looking might not be the same as you.

Have a good look around http://www.prodirectsoccer.com or http://www.kitbag.com or any number of others and pick a few you like and then try them on in the best bricks and mortar shop you can find.

It has always been adidas predator for me.. such a good boot.. i've had the current pair about 7 years... great support and comfort

I've had 3 pairs of them over the years... the first generation and third generation.. then the current pair i have was from 2002/03 direction.

The early ones, even though they were very good boots wore through in a couple of years, but like i said, the later ones are very tough wearing

    Don't buy anything with blades.

Buy a pair of normal studs for soft ground and mouldys for hard ground.

the best combinations are Addidas World cups and Copa mundial's. very similar boots, very comfortably and natural feeling and won't cost you an arm and a leg.

If you want somehting more odern looking than the mundial's get the puma king exec moulded.

    3305-10153-main-puma_king_exect-7.jpg

A lot of club doctors are trying to banblades in their under age systems as they believe they lead to injuries. Fergie has banned blades from united's training ground completely, if a youth player brings a pair into training they are binned and he is given a pair of bog standard boots. He and the united club doctors reckon roony's foot break was down the the blades.

    ???

Have you got anything that backs that up? I've never heard such nonsense in my life.

Been wearing blades for over 10 years, and never had an injury you could associate with them!

    Utter rubbish IMO.

Sounds like scraping the barrel for a scapegoat.

Not that there's anything wrong with normal studs, but blaming blades on injuries that would be caused just as easily with normal studs is borderline ridiculous.

Sounds like another Grey Jersey excuse lol

Actually I've heard it from coaches and physios before that clubs are trying to stop players wearing blades.

Depends on the way you move on the pitch, in goalkeeping for example a lot of the movement is shuffling from side to side, the shape of the blade means it covers more area than a single stud/mouldie and it creates a larger area of friction on the sole of the foot. Among other things that can lead to planter faciatis which can be quite painful.

Well I have to say I've honestly never heard of any of that before, never been witness to it and never suffered because of it.

Surely, if these things were that bad, they would be getting banned, and many pro's wouldn't be wearing them the last 10-15 years or so?

Ah right, must have missed that!

Agree on the Preds though, but I find they do get damaged fairly easily.

IIn the market for a new pair of boots myself at the minute.

In the market for a new pair of boots myself at the minute.

Imo look for these because with the new preds coming out they've gone down in price and they're very comfy - think it's a very good pair of boots at very low price you'll be getting:

Got them a few years ago. World Cups & Copas in Tullamore and the Specialis in Champion Sports in Jervis St.

World Cups were pure luck though as it was a shoe shop that had a half price or less sale. I happened to be walking past and saw the boots in the window ... really out of place but I went in and hey presto got them for €40 :-)

Copas were in Sports World in tullamore, no sale on, that was the price. Same with the Specialis

But the rubberised 'Predator' bit on the instep f my right boot has just started to tear away from the leather after a tourny last weekend :(

Had them just less than a year, and really liked them I have to say.

apparently the blade configuration in the front of the soft ground boots increases the chances of knee injury! the two middle blades being the culprits

on the older boots, new ones only have 4 studs at the front

I'll be killed for mentioning *cough* GAA *cough* but I've found I was using a pair of nike vapours and decided to switch back to the these preds ^ even though they're a bit worn and the difference in the strike I get on the ball is ridiculous - still have to carry the vapours to games though because with preds they're very prone to tearing/ripping on the instep like you mentioned - happened my previous preds...was sickened :(

Ya jammy bóllox :( I bought world cups for €115 a few years back and they're brilliant boots - what I don't like about them is the tongue gets annoying so what I did was stitch strong elastic material on either side of it so it was like the tongue on the preds - really think it's something they should add to them although by doing that they're kind of taking away from the old school look of them imo

you fold down the tongue and wrap the laces around, then fold up the tongue and knot the laces and the tongue covers and stays put.

I did that to begin with but my laces kept ripping from constantly striking the ball - could also be from my left handedness causing me to suck at tying knots etc. :) - I just prefer being able to put the tongue over with the elastic instead of chaning the way I'd normally lace up anyway

Ended up with a pair of these got them last week only pair with my size,
was thinking hoping it would'nt rain all week,
would I still be ok wearing these in the wet or would I be all over the place as they are FG.

It depends on the ground tbh - I'd wear them if the ground is hard because even if it's wet and the ground is hard you're going to slip if wearing studs and you're going to hurt your feet.

If the ground has softened from the rain then wear studs for better grip imo
