I think he's a bit hit and miss. His dire singing that would have cats in heat running for cover is particularly cringeworthy. You can't sing, Craig!

At last I have something in common with him... To be fair to Ryan, who ye know I dont like, I'm not sure anybody could have made an entertaining show with those guests..

Why didnt they bring Crowded House on for an interview, then let them play one new song and one old song??

It is when you have to listen to 15 minutes of Nolan that you realise
that Twink still has a lot to offer. Desperate. The second most boring and pointless interview in history.
The first being that twat chef and his wife who were on about 4 weeks ago.

Edit: Quick, hide them ****ing hampers from Nolan

Even when PK was in charge, they normally went "over time" due to some lively debate about something or other.

Now when I change back to rte1 to watch the late news headlines, it's over by the time it's advertised.

Yeah, fair enough, I guess PK likes debates. I don't think he's perfect running those, either, but at least he hasn't ruined Q&A/The Frontline and I have hardly missed a show this season. The recession has made us all that bit more interested in politics, mind you. However, I wouldn't have him back on TLL for love nor money. RT is a much more natural and comfortable-to-watch chat show presenter. His guests have been too boring, though. Has he had better or worse guests than PK? I wouldn't know because I mostly gave up watching TLL under PK!

PK had the same B-listers but at least PK had some topical debates and current affairs.
This is the what made the LLS great, back in the day.

In a week where we find out that 27+ kids died in while in state care, PK would have covered this.
Of course you won't see Tubs, the FF lacky even mention this.

The LLS under Tubs is a waste of taxpayers money, this season has been dreadful. Time to finish it.

This is very true Poly. Even with the worst guests, Pat could get a bit of entertainment out of them with a lively debate on any topical political issue. They seemed to have ditched the political element of the show, maybe cos Tubridy is a Fianna Fáiler?

I haven't read the above posts and TBH avoid this thread most weeks.

I don't think Ryan is all that interested. I think he has it in his head that he likes the idea of the show but I don't think he really cares.

Of course it doesn't help when your last show and most of your previous shows are filled with fairly low quality celebs.

Riverdance, the quintuplets, Joe O'Connor were all good interviews, however by the time he got to Joe he was getting bored.

Caprice and One of the Nolan Sisters, AGAIN? The interview with Coleen was just dull, how's the family? the kids? etc etc who cares? I have a feeling that Loose Women are on call for RTÉ chat shows.

IMO RTÉ Chat shows need to move away from celebrity and if they want 2 shows one should definitely stay away from celebrity i.e. British Soap Opera Stars, British TV presenters and British Reality TV stars.

But if you don't spend two hours licking "celebrity arse" the only other thing to talk about is current affairs.

It’s obvious, you can’t do current affairs without being critical of government, so that rules out Tubridy doing current affairs.
So expect another mind numbing season of Twink, boyzone, faircity, westlife and FF propaganda.

I find it a bit galling that people like Joe and other "artists" like Robert Ballagh who don't pay their fair share of tax pontificate to the rest of us mere mortals.

I agree he is articulate and makes a lot of sense but the fact still remains that he gets a tax exemption that I don't think it's deserved.

Only about a half of workers actually pay income tax.

But they are the lower earners that don't pay income tax. I don't think Joe qualifies as a low earner!

I don't think that Joe Duffy et al., come under the provisions of "Artist" exemption of up to 100,000 euro.

Joe doesn't get an exemption either - list here http://www.revenue.ie/en/tax/it/leaflets/artists-exemption-section-195-1997-act.html. However it really shouldn't go to celebrity autobiographies or soap screenwriters.

Do part-time workers count in this "half of workers don't play income tax"?

    What about students working part-time?
