Watching Discovery Knowledge a few days ago about the histroy of assault rifles, they were saying the American's M1903 Springfield was an exact copy of the Mauser. Mauser took Springfield to court over copyright and won the case and they had to pay the Germans royalities. So as the American historian said, the Germans received payment in order to allow the Americans use their rifle to shoot their soldiers........
