Hi all! We have been experiencing an issue on site where threads have been missing the latest postings. The platform host Vanilla are working on this issue. A workaround that has been used by some is to navigate back from 1 to 10+ pages to re-sync the thread and this will then show the latest posts. Thanks, Mike.

    I know!

Another pet hate of mine, which happened to me a few minutes ago, is when you go to get a drink and realise it's all gone but you don't remember drinking it all. The same for food too I guess. Sooo annoying. >.<

People who like really obnoxious facebook groups, like "Seeing the downgrade your ex has made and laughing"

Resisting the urge to write 'He must have every long arms to reach the bottom of that barrel so'

The "like if cried" facebook groups. You know the ones.

    "Guy: Make me a sandwich.
    Girl: No.
    Like if you cried"

Patriotism / nationalism. The Queen's visit is sparking new levels of idiocy amongst people I know and it's all too grating.
Definately. The queens's visit to Croke Park has definately got to some people. The GAA's congress was here last weekend and because they were revealing a new statue or something in Cusack Park (The county GAA Ground), they re-painted the whole outside walls white. They painted them on a Thursday and by the Friday mornig some idiot had gone and sprayed "No Queen" and "Bloody Sunday" all over the walls in horrible yellow spray paint. I knew it was only a matter of time before somebody did it but still. Get over it, it's only the Queen.

Also: music snobbery. Just because you haven't heard of them doesn't mean that they're no good. I like my rather obscure (to some people) music tastes (Thank you C&H) along with some of the popular music that everyone else is mad into these days so it's time to broaden your horizon's people!

    People who say 'Me thinks'

The word is 'methinks', and it's a real word, usually known from Gertrude's quote - "the lady doth protest too much methinks", methinks.

Not talking about you bluejaymraz, but this reminded me of someone I used to go to school with.

    I HAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAATE people who are like;

'Ohmigawsh, I'm so cool. I'm listening to a band YOU'VE never heard of. I'm SOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO cool.'
You'd ask her what it was and she'd say oh I don't wanna spread it around or everyone will like it and it'll get ruined.

Just coz they play it on the radio doesn't make it evil.

One thing I really love is cover versions of songs that take the lyrics in a totally different direction to the original yet I'm 'commiting a musical sin'

    Whatever b*tch!!

People blowing their nose in front of me. The sound of it makes me cringe. Oh and the looking in the tissue afterwards to admire their handywork. Euggh!

Self-professed 'nerds.' People have begun using this kind of self-deprecation to advertise their supposed intelligence. No. Just because you're doing Physics for your Leaving Cert doesn't make you a nerd nor does it make you the next Stephen Hawking.

I hate when people rob my glasses when I'm on a night out. People have run away with them and I'm left trying to find them to retrieve my glasses, which becomes a fairly difficult task when you're cripplingly short-sighted.

On a similar note, 'nerd glasses' really annoy me, I'm not quite sure why!

"That's what she said" jokes. Had to put up with them all year. Lord.

oh they make me so angry . Not funny people . Perhaps whe were funny once, perhaps. I remember somebody said a funny one which is good but when people say them after everything they're just not funny . Especially when unfuny people say them. Not saying i'm funny but i'm a lot funnier than some what she said jokes.

I also really dislike high heel shoes that are like ankle boots. Sozzles but they look good on nobody unless you're like a size four modele , even then i'd have my doubts. Your legs look like tree trunks. Not in a million years would i wear them. Ugly, ugly things. They should be banned in ireland.

Not a big fan of those myself; they're passable with black tights or leggings but so many girls wear them with bare legs and it's just not flattering

People who complain about how useless doctors are because they wouldn't give 'em antibiotics. Really wrecks my head. I hate the general culture whereby people think they know more about things than experts (although obviously if you have a gut feeling something's not right or whatever you should trust that and follow it up) but this idea that you should get an antibiotic because you sneezed or else your doctor is an incompetent idiot (or withholding them for malicious reasons, which is something a few people have suggested to me recently ) grinds my gears.

    People who can't use roundabouts.
People who unnecessarily drive about 40kph lower than the speed limit.
People who speed up when you're overtaking them (grrr).
Idiots who pull out in front of you from a side road and then don't bother to get up to the speed of the road.

    There are gazillions more :P

When there's an embarrassing picture of someone on Facebook and the uploader decides it'll be hilarious and original to tag half of their friends in it. No picture of me has been subjected to this, but I hate when I get tagged in one and keep getting notifications of people saying 'looking well ;)' 'is that....hahahahaha it is *insert name here*' and 'OMG THIS IS SO EMBARRASSING DELETE'. At this point I untag myself and hope it never happens again.

Facebook friend politics. It's a really stupid thing to get annoyed about but it sometimes feels really bad when people remove you as a friend.

Now I'm not talking about those people on your friends list who you went to school with but never particularly liked and were never actually friends with. Or people you may have spontaneously (i.e. drunkenly) added after meeting them like once ever. The whole "friend cull" is totally understandable in that case.

But it's the case where you lost touch with someone and haven't seen them for ages but still think highly of them....when those people just remove you without any explanation, it can hurt a little. :( I know it's only facebook and people will tell me to get over it or whatever but it's not nice feeling like you've been removed from someone's life who you once thought really highly of.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 4,893 ✭✭✭Davidius

I was under the impression that the number of friends you had was to improve the size of your e-peen. In that context the act of removing a bunch of friends seems like a response to medical condition or a symptom of a psychological disorder.

Tbh I'm regretting posting that now as it probably makes me sound a bit pathetic. I had one particular person in mind, and they'll never see or read that post. So yeah.....bit of a pointless rant, really.

Maybe she just doesn't believe in herself and her learning abilities.....

If I see one more Facebook status complaining about English in grammatically poor English I'm going to have a freak out. How can people expect to do well if they can't even spell or put a proper sentence together? OH GOD THESE PEOPLE ARE ACTUALLY LEAVING SCHOOL. Quoted from my newsfeed: 'Paperrr 2 Tomorow ! 540 in the mocks begs to differ. Said the exact same thing in the mocks and wrote like there was no tomorrow, i know the people in my class, and i know all of their abilities. That's why it does my bloody head in! If she was stupid or ill prepared i'd understand but i know for a bloody fact she isnt.

I don't understand why people get so pressed about how much everyone else has or hasn't studied tbh, it doesn't affect you. Better to downplay how much you've studied and end up doing well than say you know everything and end up looking like an idiot, though I don't really sit in exams paying attention to how much other people are writing anyway...

Smart people don't always think they're smart............. They're allowed to have a freak out before exams too. It's not always to look cool. And anyway I wouldn't call somebody who knows nothing for their exams cool, I'd call them lazy. Just cos you've done well in the mocks doesn't automatically entitle you to do well again. Hating on the smart kids is a pet hate of mine.

Bit of a generalisation all the same, I'm one of those people who gets by well enough without having to study much, partly because I have a good memory and partly because I like nearly everything so it makes it easier...I still get worried before big tests because I always know there was a hell of a lot more that I could have done. Aaand I did well in the mocks and whenever I say I'm gonna do crappy in something in the real thing everyone is like 'yeah right' and that actually really irritates me. So yeah, that attitude is my pet hate.

Of course they are, but this one person knows shes well. People who dont think they will preform well dont only have UCD or TCD on their CAO.
I'm not hating on smart kids, I just dont think when someone knows they're capable and obviously is has any reason to complain to everyone about how 'little' they know.
