I am officially sick of being full...

    Bench
    60kg (3x15)
    80kg x15
    100kg x15
    120kg x1
    140kg x1
    *....eh*
    162.5kg x2 (PR)
    135kg x10 (Token PR?)

    Lat Pulldown
    Pin 8 x12
    Pin 11 x12
    Pin 14 x12

    Seated row
    80,120,160, 200kg x10

    Fishbowl Pulldown
    Stack (5x15)

    Rope Pushdown
    (5x15)

Back is quite sore after that, probably a bit of mild compression as a result of the lumbar extension on the bench, fingers crossed it clears up for one last heavy squat session on Wednesday. Lots of vitamin i between now and then should do the job. Happy with the rep PR this evening, second rep was veeeeery slow though. Ill try to pause something at some point before the comp...maybe.

Haha the real reason for the name is way better :P

But it is COH' favourite exercise (after high squats , bounced bench pressing and hitched deadlifting ) :P

Last heavy day before the comp..

    Squats
    60kg (3x5)
    100kg (2x5)
    140kg x3
    160kg x2
    180kg x1
    200kg x1
    *heavy sleeves*
    220kg x1
    240kg x1
    *knee wraps, game face*
    262.5kg x2 (P motherf*cking R)

From deciding to do this comp for the craic and only doing a short prep cycle I can now officially say I cannot wait to get on the platform saturday week.

    Deadlift
    60kg (3x5)
    100kg (2x5)
    140kg x3
    180kg x1
    200kg x1

*sponsored by large steaks and beer*
    240kg x5 (PR)

    Lat pulldown/hamstring curl
    (3x5)

Well, that was unexpected...10kg onto my 5RM... I'll be feeling that tomorrow. But ill be too hungover to be worrying about DOMs

  • Registered Users Posts: 7,155 ✭✭✭COH

Sick as a small hospital .. so no last bench session  Carlsberg don't do sh*t timing, but if they did....

Just going to rest up and water load now and hope that whatever strain of manfluenza I picked up over the weekend calms down before Saturday. Drinking 8-10 litres of water daily officially sucks the cosmic wang. Restricting sodium as of tomorrow and tapering off carbs from today, who knows there might even be a second ab in this for me

  • Registered Users Posts: 7,155 ✭✭✭COH

No carbs and no caffeine makes COH a complete fanny dull boy...

    Yesterdays Bench, today...
    60kg x5
    80kg x5
    100kg x3
    120kg x1
    *opener*
    140kg x1 (Paused like a boss)

    Lat Pulldown
    Pin F*ck All (3x8)

    Seated Row
    As per Lat pulldown

    Some other crap

Still sick... so frustrating after the epic prep cycle. If I'm not feeling somewhat better tomorrow I'm going to scrap the water loading and eat my way to recovery, and probably the 110s

    AM - 60mins Mobility/Stability

PM - Chiro/Sports Massage.. my poor glutes :(

Just about finished water loading, have consumed ~30litres since Sunday evening and can safely say I am absolutely 100% not thirsty, nor do I enjoy urinating every 5 mins. I'll have enough water tomorrow early AM for a quadruple espresso and to dissolve about 5000mg Vit-C to wash down the cold/flu meds that I'm tripling up on, but thats it until the 10am weigh in on Friday morning. I'll probably do some LIT in the hotel gym tomorrow evening, hopefully the sauna/hot baths etc. isn't going to be necessary.

Fingers crossed I come in feeling strong on Saturday now, and best of luck to everyone else competing on the day.

    GAME ON

Not a hope will you need hot baths/sauna. And even if you did I'd seek to avoid it in favour of LIT with bags on.

IPO Nationals - 31/3/2012 - Patrickwell Powerlifting Club, Limerick

Having reached a fatty fatty fat PR at 108.8kg two weeks out, and walking around at ~105-6kg since I started to water load the Sunday evening before the Friday weigh in. 4 litres on Sunday, 8 litres Monday (dropped all carbs here), 8 litres Tuesday (dropped sodium here) and 10litres Wednesday... bleugh. At 10pm that night I had my last meal of peanut butter and eggs and my last fluid intake until Friday morning. Thursday night sucked, couldn't sleep with the cotton mouth but knew I was set to come in comfortably under 100kg. At this point I had no saliva, and my head changed shape to a permanent state of blue steel. Hit the venue as early as possible Friday morning to weigh in, 98.25kg. Job done, then proceeded to do a take-away tour of Limerick city with VIS VIRES, bloating myself back up to over 106kg that evening before bed. Job done...

    Sat 31 - The comp

I was lifting in the 2nd flight so had plenty of time to warm up. Squat warm ups went
    75kg (2x5)
    105kg x5
    *light sleeves*
    145kg x3
    165kg x1
    185kg x1
    205kg x1
    *heavy sleeves*
    225kg x1

    Squat 1st attempt
    240kg - Good lift
    Squat 2nd Lift
    255kg - Good Lift (10kg comp PR)
    Squat 3rd attempt
270kg - Good lift (25kg comp PR) - Probably lucky to have gotten this, but who am I to argue with judges :pac:

    Bench warm ups went...
    60kg x5
    80kg x5
    100kg x5
120kg x3... all felt really heavy

    Bench 1st Lift
140kg - Good lift - slow and hard FML
    Bench 2nd Lift
145kg - No lift - No excuses, felt tired, hit an awful line and didnt lock it out.
    Bench 3rd Lift - PASS
    - Knowing that I wasn't going to get the 150+ that I wanted, and not wanting to risk any low back issues ahead of the deads since the opener would get the total I was chasing I just passed.

    Deadlift warm ups went..
    70kg x5
    120kg x5
    150kg x3
    180kg x1
    200kg x1
*realised I had started warming up too soon...*
    210kg x1
    230kg x1

    Deadlift 1st Lift
240kg - Good Lift - total secured, delighted
    Deadlift 2nd Lift
    252.5kg - Good Lift (7.5kg comp PR)
    Deadlift 3rd Lift
260kg - No lift - Got to my knees then nothing, no excuses, just had nothing left in the tank.

Over all I was delighted with the squats, very disappointed with the bench and happy enough with the deads. A nice 30kg comp PR, and a shiny token medal to take home. There were only 2 of us in the mens <100kg open class, out totalled him by a whopping 2.5kg lol. Since its the first year the IPO has run a raw division I think some of the lift were records by default.. to be broken no doubt, at the next comp. More paused work on the bench for the next comp, and a bit more confidence in the deads should see a legit push for 700@100 this year. More importantly though, my back feels great... could not be happier. Probably do the GPC push/pull comp in Spartan in two weeks then start training for the GPC Nationals in June.

Thanks to VIS in particular for all the help in the run up to, and on the day of the comp. It also helps to have a gf that's happy to double up as a chauffer/chef/masseuse and cheerleader :) Thanks also to Tony in FightingFit Camden St for sorting me out as always, Anita, Shane and everyone else involved on the day and of course to everyone at Raw Condition Gym. Here's a vid...

I think I gave myself diabetes over the Easter weekend... why is chocolate so much tastier when its overpriced and round

Aaaaanyway.. Trained twice last week, essentially upper push/upper pull... all very high volume stuff, bleh... Then shot off to the extreme west to eat, sleep and chill the hell out. Have decided against doing the GPC Push/Pull comp this weekend too. Not too fussed about making weight just think I'll be better off resting up and getting my non functional hypertrophy on for a while then making a good push for the GPC nationals in June with a completely recovered everything. I'm undecided as to whether ill do a short or long(ish) prep cycle.

Did some chest today, when its go time its bro time, all me...

Monday... Disastrous bench session. Tried a different bench technique and it didn't go well. Got up to a horrendous 140kg x1 ... Got bored, then after about an hour doing various giant sets on the cable crossover, screaming 'F*CK THE STACK' as I threw my hips into high cable curls to the beat of some useless europop bullsh*t I ended up supersetting rear delt lockouts with pec dec flys... That says it all really!

Basically a walking tiger-balm factory at the moment... had my gf 'massage' my hamstrings with her heals before training, I asked her to go light.. she proceeded to kick the sh*t out of while laughing uncontrollably as I lay screaming on the floor stuck between the couch and the coffee table. Deads were grand, expected the top set to be harder. Speed deads and GHR were totally elite hardcore... because I'm a fancy f*cker.

what new bench setup did you try?

Pulled my feet further back and arched harder... all powerliftery like. I messed around with narrower grips and foot positions (flat foot vs on toes). It all sucked donkey balls tbh
