Hi all! We have been experiencing an issue on site where threads have been missing the latest postings. The platform host Vanilla are working on this issue. A workaround that has been used by some is to navigate back from 1 to 10+ pages to re-sync the thread and this will then show the latest posts. Thanks, Mike.

Old Photos onto disc

I have a load of old photos I wish to put on disc so I can have a permanent copy of them.

I don't have the negatives, only the photos.

I have about 100 I would like to get done. I haven't got the computer skills to do it myself nor do I know anyone how could.

Does anyone know of any places in Dublin that do this or any decent websites that are a reasonable price?

I checked one and it was €1.50 per photo. There is no way I'd pay €150.

    Any help would be great!

    Borrow a scanner from someone.

I have a scanner. I can't use it. I'd rather bring them somewhere to get them done right.

OP that soundslike quite a reasonable price, for 100 photo's what kinda resolution scans are you getting for that.

Have you tried negotiating a deal with them maybe tell them you have 100 photo's this time with the possibility of maybe more in the future if you like the results of the scans they give you. Prices can always be negotiated.

    Google is your friend...

There is a place in Terenure which does scanning from 9 cent a photo.

I have no idea about the quality but from experience you get what you pay for!

I can't belive you won't do it yourself if you have a scanner

    You just push 1 button

    100% free

I am no use with computers. I tried scanning it but when it comes up on the computer, the picture is tiny and when I enlarge it, the quality becomes very poor.

Be very careful about thinking that putting photos on a disc makes them a permanent copy - recent studies have shown that with CD's it is wise to recopy them at least every 3-5 years as the life expectancy of a disc can be as low a 3-5 years.

If you get a disc made, I would recommend you make 2 copies of the the disc using 2 different brands of the CD and if you have HDD space, copy the disk to your HDD.
