Hi all! We have been experiencing an issue on site where threads have been missing the latest postings. The platform host Vanilla are working on this issue. A workaround that has been used by some is to navigate back from 1 to 10+ pages to re-sync the thread and this will then show the latest posts. Thanks, Mike.

    Hi

I need to buy a new printer but im finding it very hard to make up my mind.
I do quite a bit of printing and was using a dell all in one which was ok.
    Thats dead now.
I have about 100 or less to spend and need a printer thats cheap to buy but that the ink is also cheap to buy. I used to be able to get the dell ink for about 11 refilled per cartridge and i though that this was quite good.

Anyone with some expertise help me out?

To save cost in the long term you'll want to find a printer which is compatible with spongeless refillable cartridges or an ink flow system.

You can buy bottles of ink (250ml or 500ml) and fill the cartridges or ink reservoir with a syringe. This way, over time, the average cost of a refill will be something like 20cents.

Here's a selection of continuous ink supply systems (if you are comfortable with possibly "modifiying" the printer to allow the CISS operate). Depending on the printer it might just fit straight in.

In the links above you will see lots of brands and model numbers.

If you are printing photos, I think pigment based inks will last longer, but for text and normal printing the cheaper dye will be fine.

Seems like a good system, i wouldnt void my warranty on a new printer though. thanks anyway

Well you won't void the warranty if you don't modify the printer. Like I said, some CISSs fit straight in without having to remove bits of plastic from the printer. In some cases you might only have to screw a panel off, if the printer breaks, then scew the panel back on and your warranty would still be intact.

The best option for you is spongeless refillable cartridges. Get a kit which includes bottles of ink and syringes, or buy them all separate. Using these cartridges will not void your warranty.
