My favourite is Chapter One, but you might not get a table at this short notice.
I've never been, but I hear Dax is very good.

try here, just off georges street:

    http://www.lgueuleton.com/

French food but very tasty, not too pricy and nice place.

Or here, very nice thai in town:

    http://www.sabadublin.com/

Chapter One might be a bit much for the occasion you are suggesting,,,

They seam like very expensive restaurants. Anywhere abit more reasonable but still good?

you could get starter, main, desert in either for around €30-€40 which I dont think is too bad. A lot of these places will have early birds with smaller menus too which can be €20-€30. Saba also have a takeaway which is brilliant and lunch time menus are cheap too!

Prob the best you'll get for your money is the Winding Stair. You could go for the early bird too.

Have to second the winding stair....great grub, really homely and warm atmosphere and they focus on Irish, artisan producers. I have to recommend their aioli dip and homemade chips...delish.

Ah yeah. I was just stating it in general, rather than suggesting it to you :). Saba is a good choice. Never been disappointed there, service is good and I like the decor too.

It's not, especially considering the quality of the food. Only downside is you can't book a table.

Maybe try Elephant and Castle in temple bar

Peploe's on St Stephen's Green will impress, they are doing a pre-theatre too!

One Pico do a decent early bird menu

If fact its hard to find a good restaurant that doesn't

But if you want to hang about all evening you could try Odessa or Bang (its re-opened)

L'Gueuleton in my opinion is not a good restaurant. I've eaten there three times and on all occasions I've thought it was crap.

I would recommend the Market Menu in The Clarence. http://www.theclarence.ie/uploads/documents/The%20Tea%20Room%20Market%20Menu%20June%202010.pdf

You get about 6 courses in total. By far the best value fine dining in Dublin.

In your opinion, or are you the definitive source??? I haven't eaten there but it doesn't jump out as fine dining to me based on the menu, menu choice is pretty simple. Also there are 3 starters, three main courses, hardly 6 courses in total....

Enjoy Saba, I would recommend either the bangkok noodles or the yellow prawn curry (they also do this with chicken). Be warned though the food can be hot, even the bangkok with 3 out of 5 is verrrry hot!!!

Also, enjoy the rest of your night :P

If you read the thread properly you will get a feeling for what the OP wants and its pretty clear it is not Patrick Guilbaud, Bentleys etc... Title may be a bit misleading...

They bring you other not-on-the-menu courses beween meals. For example, you get two desserts.

Go there and try it. It is far superior to the average Dublin restaurant and cannot be beaten value-wise. Seriously, go there and see!

PS I've eaten once or twice in probably every single restaurant in Dublin.

Shame you didn't have a nice time there. I have only had a pleasant time there myself.
