Bambooze, we are all aware of the fact that the aid ship were trying to prevent the IDF from boarding the ship, which was Turkish territory.
On a more serious note since you seem to have much access to all things showing how harassed the Israelis are, could you please post Israeli videos showing violence against them as they go about their business equivalent to
these which were already posted, showing abuse of Israelis, even one video
without resorting to footage from the early 1940s.

    I'm just curious, is all.

By the way you should watch these you might get some enlightenment

American student Emily Henochowicz loses an eye when an Israeli soldier fires a tear gas canister directly at her head. She was attending a protest about the Gaza convoy raid. I suppose the thug that did this was following standard operating procedures as well.

"Broken Glass Bottle" and a Bart Simpson slingshot are the best the IDF could find, apart from 10 blokes with cameras, torches and one with a big stick? It'd be laughable if it wasn't so tragic.

They went into the galley and shockingly they found knives. Obviously they must be terrorists if they have knives in the galley.

Also the ship is quite a bit bigger than that embedded video suggests. Had a wander around some of the decks during a trip to Marmara and there is a lot of storage space, so the chances that there was a bunch of random crap lying around that no-one even knew about is pretty high I would say.

I don't think the ambassador is a butcher in fairness. I think he's a diplomat.

He is the direct point of contact between this state and Israel but frankly Israel has continued to piss us off even after the main incident:

    http://www.rte.ie/news/2010/0603/mideast.html

Two of the Irish activists were injured in separate incidents with Israeli security personnel at Tel Aviv airport and are being treated in hospital in Turkey.

Fiachra O'Luain was treated in hospital in Istanbul for injuries which are not believed to be serious.

The family of Libyan-born Irish citizen Al Mahdi Al Harati say that he called them from Turkish hospital in the early hours of this morning. It was the first time they had heard from him since he was detained by the Israeli authorities. Housam Najjair, his brother-in-law, said that Mr Harati is being treated in the intensive care unit of Ankara's Ataturk Hospital, after being beaten in the head and groin while in Israeli custody.

    ISRAEL OUT NOW!!!!!

Am I free to start referring to ambassadors from various countries as terrorist scum then? Yeah, coolio.. I don't care if you want the ambassador out, he should have been gone long ago, but let's cut the hysterics of calling the man a butcher.

Sure, when he starts showing other people the same respect, then he will be deserving of it himself.

You might want to read the posted sentence again:

"Keep signing this petition to expell the butchers"

He was referring to Israel as butchers and while it is a hysterical word to use, in the context of recent events that's a fair comment when our citizens are been shot at, kidnapped and then beaten while in custody of an allegedly friendly nation.

Any such armed attack and all measures taken as a result thereof shall immediately be reported to the Security Council. Such measures shall be terminated when the Security Council has taken the measures necessary to restore and maintain international peace and security .

    As mentioned by another poster

Imo Turkey needs to invoke this treaty. May be the only thing Israel would fear. But then It could would lead to internal problems between the US and other Nato members

Wow, this thread has broken over 100 pages in record time.
Nice talk people all having but it will bear no fruit in the long run.
Reminds me of the debate about American planes using Shannon or some thread on the exit strategy for Afganistan.

Thanks for the info, I will be attending this and it will be my first ever protest march, but I really do feel so strongly about this, especially after the unbelievable snub to our government by the Israeli ambassador yesterday saying he will not attend a Oireachteas Committee to answer questions

They probably don't want to push their luck in Europe, seeing as their already costing the rest of the union a fortune. We're in the same boat but I don't think we'd have any shame in sticking our hands out and calling in favours.

I was thinking of Greece for some reason. :o Got conflustered thinking of how that would apply if Israel do the same to an Irish/European ship.

    Turkey.

Fiachra O'Luain was treated in hospital in Istanbul for injuries which are not believed to be serious.

Fiachra O' Luain is an Irish National who was aboard The Challenger.
I have yet to see any video evidence to suggest that those aboard The Challenger used violence against the Israeli soldiers.

It will be interesting to see how Israel will justify his injuries, as well as any injuries suffered by people who were not aboard the Mavi Marmara.

Whereas I can understand that Israel must protect its borders from terrorist attack - I cannot condone the kidnapping of aid workers from International waters. Neither can I ignore the maps that show absolute proof that the Palestinian people are consistently being squeezed onto ever-decreasing strips of land. If the Israeli soldiers who boarded the Mavi Marmara had a right to self defence - then where is the Palestinian equal right to self defence?

I am no fan of Hamas - it is an organisation built on Hatred - and hatred is a self-defeating emotion. However - if a people are oppressed over an extended period of time, until they feel they have no alternative but the use of violence - then History has shown time and again that people will resort to violence in that situation.

It is time the International community intervened to find a peaceful solution - before this situation escalates further..........

I have no idea how accurate this source is - but if it's accurate, then I believe it has the potential to be very constructive - or very destructive:

    Food for thought?

While i have enormous sympathy for those poor people in Gaza i firmly believe (Like our own lovely island) that BOTH sides are at fault.

Also, with the stink being kicked up with this flotilla, one would almost think the whole thing was planned.

I just wanted to clear this up because this is very, very important... it wasn't self defence...

Here is an interview with a journalist who saw everything as it happened.

    http://vodpod.com/watch/3760407-inte...e-mavi-marmara
There is no doubt from what I saw that live ammunition was fired before any Israeli soldier was on deck.

These reports seem to contradict Israeli claims that their commandos ONLY used live ammunition after being set upon by the protesters and that they only had paint ball guns to begin with.

Interview starts about 45 seconds into the video. Interesting points at 2 minutes in and then 3:20 minutes in he talks about the sequence of what happened and who did what first. Around 5 minutes in he talks about how the Israelis left three critically injured people untreated for 3 hours despite repeated requests and allowed them to die.

TBH this doesn't surprise me in the least, because the video released by the IDF showed the commandos boarding but not what had happened before that.

Is it any surprise that the people in the ship tried to fight off the commandos after they had seen their fellow passengers shot and killed from above?

It's also not surprising that the Israelis held these people for 3 days so that they could put their own spin on events without correction from those who were there.

It's very important that people realise this...

The Israelis fired FIRST and used LIVE ammunition. This myth that they were somehow acting in self-defence is completely false and a fabrication of the Israeli PR machine.
