Hi all! We have been experiencing an issue on site where threads have been missing the latest postings. The platform host Vanilla are working on this issue. A workaround that has been used by some is to navigate back from 1 to 10+ pages to re-sync the thread and this will then show the latest posts. Thanks, Mike.

    Here's what's left.

    1. John Alton was the cinematographer
    2. Released in the same year as 1. The lead prepared for his role by studying addicts going cold turkey.
    3. Also released in the same year as the above. Could also say it inspired parts of Lost Highway.
    10. Considered to be one of the first film-noirs.

Knight Moves, The Sweet Hereafter and Copycat are all correct. It's not Hang 'Em High. It's a very generic shot, admittedly, but that's the challenge, I suppose.

Rednik was also right with Knight Moves and spotting Martin Balsam in Cape Fear.

    Well done, both.

It never even occurred to me. It looks so properly "cinematic", I thought it was from a feature film biopic, or a music-centric film, in a similar vein to Nashville. Ridiculous that I didn't get it immediately. I'm very annoyed at myself. :P

Looking back through those early film noir days what incredible imagery was used. The use of shadows was stunning. I must checkout some of these to view. I have seen some through the years but I have a lot more to see. They are simply stunning, thanks for that Renn.

Yeah, I second this. It's a bit like when you (Rednik) posted a still from Race with the Devil and I went off and bought the DVD 'cos I was so keen to see it again, this thread is great for prompting interest in films you've either not seen in ages, or perhaps have never seen.
A lot of these film noir images - from films I've not watched since the mid-1990s in most cases - make me want to seek them out.

No. 5 is the 1978 directorial debut of a subsequent Oscar-winning director. Yes, that is Mr. Lennon on the screen. That's key to identifying the film.
The director went on to have a fruitful commercial partnership with the director of No. 6, which is a film based on real events, featuring a future James Bond.
No. 8 is from an acclaimed documentary about an American family, which started out as a film featuring one family member, and his job as a party clown.

No, it's not Defiance, but you've got the right James Bond.
The screen shot is from a 2005 film, a year before Casino Royale.
If it's I Wanna Hold Your Hand (which it is: well done), that makes it Robert Zemeckis, who collaborated with...

No, it's not Defiance, but you've got the right James Bond.
The screen shot is from a 2005 film, a year before Casino Royale.
If it's I Wanna Hold Your Hand (which it is: well done), that makes it Robert Zemeckis, who collaborated with...

    Spielberg/Munich. ;)
