@ROK ON: I deleted your thread on the same issue as merging it would have added nothing. Post quicker next time :)

Took them a long time. I had always admired Valverde (in the past) but at least he didn't win any of the major classics this season or there might have been some pretty embarrassed faces. Simon Spilak must feel cheated out of winning the Tour of Romandie.

Pity he'll keep the Vuelta title though.

TBH there are worse than him out there but it's a good move forward.

I'd say there a few more dog owners sweating just a bit more now......

Happy he's finally been suspended! Was gutted that it wasn't done sooner though..

Noticed this from the cycling news article
The decision will likely lead the UCI to strip Valverde of his overall victory in the Tour de Romandie and his second place in Paris-Nice as well as see him stripped of his position as UCI World Rankings leader.
Would be nice if it actually happened :)

Question: Will the stages he won this year be taken from him as well or is it just the overalls?
EDIT: Yes, all victories are taken from him :
    2/05/2010 2.PT 1 Tour de Romandie (2: Spilak)
    2/05/2010 2.PTs 1 Tour de Romandie, Stage 5 (2: Anton)

    6/04/2010 2.PTs 1 Vuelta al Pais Vasco, Stage 2 : Zierbena - Viana (2: Freire)
    5/04/2010 2.PTs 1 Vuelta al Pais Vasco, Stage 1 : Zierbena - Zierbena (2: Freire)

    14/02/2010 2.1 1 Tour Méditerranéen (2: Nocentini)

When are they going to do a DNA test on the 'AC' blood bag?

When are they going to do a DNA test on the 'AC' blood bag?

I thought it was well known who AC referred to?

Or was he just taking a bullet for Contador?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 7,604 ✭✭✭petethedrummer

I hadn't heard that. But it doesn't mention that the bag was his. A simple DNA test would settle it once and for all.

I think you're being unfair Pete

Alberto Contador has never failed a test and looks at his previous teams they really are an unblemished group with a strong anti-doping ethos......

Is there an AC bloodbag? I thought the only mention of his name was in the documents found?

Is this sarcastic? i do know a lot of people think Contador is clean and he does have a physique that lends to being a mountain goat

A little sarcasm was implied all right.

While he has the physique of a mountain goat he does seem to be able to beat TT specialists at will.......

And too be honest his list of teams is quite frankly a rouges gallery

Yeah I was worried you were forgetting this shambles:
    http://www.cyclingweekly.co.uk/news/latest/348714/astana-kicked-out-of-tour.html.

Hard to know who (if anyone) is clean. He can time trial as well as Cancellara, don't want to get drag in that can of worms to this thread as well!

I know he wasn't with Astana for this btw, I'm just making the point on Astana

Actually you're right and I think I corrected someone on here before about that. I think I'm developing amnesia. Sorry he's clean as a whistle.

José Ivan Gutierrez condemns Valverde's suspension. Jesus wept:
Alejandro Valverde's case is the greatest injustice I met in all my life. Alejandro is a champion to whom the right to race will be denied. And if I tell you the truth neither I nor the majority of us know why.

Ummm, bags of his blood were found in a doping clinic.
Alejandro Valverde is a rider who never had abnormal values in an anti-doping control and he is for sure the rider who underwent the greatest number of controls considering the fact he climbs on the podium in almost all the races he participates in, without taking into account the incredible number of out-of-competitions tests he is subjected to.

Ehhh, his blood bags tested positive for EPO.

And if you think Gutierrez is an exception, the Spanish press isn't far behind.

Remember the hysterics our mainstream commentators got into when the American swimmer suggested Michelle Smith was doping?

See how the Spanish are reporting it in a few weeks to get a better idea of their reaction.
