Anyone know if there will be many people going to the Twin Parade in Carrickmacross this sunday? They are trying out for a guinness world record, only heard about it yesterday.

They did set the record, 231 sets of twins, though it needs to be submit for approval to be listed.

They could have had 232 if I'd have known, mine were with me in Drogheda, we could have popped up if we'd known!

Pressure from Triplets leads to Carrickmacross Twins Parade Expansion.

The largest gathering of twins in Ireland organised by the Carrickmacross Lions Club took place last June as part of the town’s Summer Festival Weekend. All roads will lead to Carrickmacross again on June 4th 2011 when twins, triplets and more will parade through the town and attempt to smash last year’s record.
Lions Club President Michael Murphy explained that during a presentation to The Irish Multiple Births Association he met parents of triplets who very much wanted to be included in this year’s event. He added that as all the proceeds of the Parade goes to local charities then it made sense to include triplets and other multiples in the Parade.
Online registration is now open at www.carrickmacross.ie and the organisers expect at least 500 sets of twins to take part after the huge success of their first event last year.
The Lions Club have organised a family orientated disney themed multiple band concert on the Friday night. In addition to this a new streamlined registration process in a larger venue is in place as well as post parade entertainment for all twins and their families.

    President offers €1000 Reward for
    Twin’s Capture
Carrickmacross Lions Club President Michael Murphy has launched a search to find the school that can locate and round up the most sets of twins, triplets, or quadruplets and deliver them to The Carrickmacross Lions Club Twin(s) + Parade on Saturday 4th June 2011. All schools both primary and post primary are invited to take part. The school represented with the highest number of Twins/Multiples in the parade gets to lead the event and claim the €1000 bounty.

So far Lisdoonan National School is leading the way with four sets of twins all eager to take part in the Parade which this year is sponsored by Healthy Hearts, Healthy Lives, a company that offers mobile Cardiac Screening to sports clubs.

This year the Twin’s Parade is being extended to all multiple births including triplets and quadruplets - so you won't just see double this year! The competition is not limited to school pupils but is open to all Twins and Multiples including past pupils, family, relatives and friends.

There are 3 simple steps to claim the €1000 for the winning school. Students should round up all the Twins and Multiples that they know. Get them to Pre- register for the parade at www.carrickmacross.ie and finally get them to the parade on Saturday 4th June at 3pm.

The Lions Club have also organised a Disney themed family orientated multiple band concert on the Friday night before the parade. Online registration is now open at www.carrickmacross.ie and the organisers expect to beat last year’s record of 231 sets of Twins. All the proceeds of the Parade will go to support charitable causes.
