Hi all! We have been experiencing an issue on site where threads have been missing the latest postings. The platform host Vanilla are working on this issue. A workaround that has been used by some is to navigate back from 1 to 10+ pages to re-sync the thread and this will then show the latest posts. Thanks, Mike.

Social Welfare & Subcontracting

The company i work for is making 90% of its employees redundant next month, due to lack of work.
I have been asked if i would come back and work on a contract by contract basis (as a subbie), if and when new work comes up.

My main fears are that if i do this i can't claim social welfare, if after 3 or 6 months the work dried up again and i was out of work, as i would effectively self employed.

I've only heard anecdotal evidence of this so i don't know if it's true.

Also, i have mortgage repayment protection. would this scenario hinder my claim as per the social welfare claim above?

I've not been on social welfare before, so i'm not too sure how all this works.

I may not have posted in the correct sub-forum, so feel free to move if needs be.

    any info would be welcome.

If you set up a company under the umbrella scheme of another (check out cxc.ie - this is who I used) you will still be paying PRSI etc and therefore entitled to claim if the work dries up.I know as I've done it myself before.
