I wouldn't waste too much time on recruitment agencies at the moment. Companies have to pay recruitment agencies to find them staff and as there isn't exactly a shortage of people looking for work in retail, construction or warehousing at the moment it's unlikely many will use the services of agencies. I'd recommend you use directories such as Kompass.ie or the IDA or Shannon Development websites and get lists of companies and approach them directly. Think about it - if you were an employer would you pay a recruitment agency when you've loads of people sending you CV's everyday!!?

To be honest, recuitment agents tend to deal with more skilled roles, places like shops, warehouses etc would tend to hire directly themselves rather pay out a fee to a recruiment agency (bar for top level jobs).

The couple of interviews i got were from fas.ie still didn't get a job. Each employer told me they got hundreds of cv's.

Also irishjobs.ie + jobs.ie, there is also limerickleader.ie have small jobs section.

Word of mouth + through friends i think is the way to get a job in limerick.

I agree with above post about just applying to companies direct, even recruitment agencies are closing down in limerick.

I've just had my 1 year anniversary of unemployment it sucks, never been unemployed before for more than a few weeks.

augh trust me, been there done that. I have a daly routine whereby I check fas.ie
    jobs.ie
    loadzajobs.ie
    careerjet.com

theres a few more saved in my favourites, Just handed out 20 or so cvs the other day and another 15 or so couple weeks ago, seriouly bad that theres literally NOTHING in a city the size of limerick

No warehouse work out there come from that industry myself and since IEC, Sercom and Banta went to the walls ( I know they still open but very little staff ) there is nothing else out there,
But I would say register with FAS there website is pretty good especially for the Warehouse and Building industry

I agree there is nothing, but you can't give up.

Its just down to luck at this stage, i know so many unemployed people from my old job who still have found nothing, they are all educated, skilled, experienced.

I know a lot of people who went back to school last sept + more this sept.

Every week the gov create new jobs its always dublin, cork, galway.

Poor limerick seems forgotten about, thats not going to help the future generation of limerick people.

Don't let unemployment get you down, its hard job hunting, harder than any job, getting no replies, interviews and hearing nothing afterwards.

Don't take is personally if 400 people apply for a job washing dishes in donegal. 1 got the job, 399 were rejected.

I'm begining to think, i.ve a better chance of winning the lotto than getting a job.

Stay positive + don't give up.

Fully agree with this also if you can do any charity work whatever it is I think would help as A) Gets you out and about meeting new people B)Something else to put on CV if you have an interview and they ask you what you have been doing the last couple of months it be great to tell about the charity work you were doing.
Of course this wont help the finacial problems in the short term but long term it may bit that little advantage thats gets you your next job

It all depends on what job a person is looking for. I started a job today but Im on here because it was only a meet and greet with the boss to be given all my stuff and Im home now.

I was put forward by a recruitment agent to the company. Recruitment companies normally charge 20% fee on whatever wages the company offer the employee but a new company, by one of the UK dragons den, is starting a new recruitment company is Ireland which has a flat fee of €950 or so to find the right employee.

Now If you are a company looking to hire ONE guy in a warehouse then you wont bother with a recruitment company because most people can do that job so you dont need to search for the "RIGHT" person.

If the job requires a certain level of experience then recruitment companies, AFAIC, are the only way to go.

You can just register your cv on line a fas.ie, Also just apply for jobs advertised there, its same as in fas office. Anything with ce scheme you can't apply for as its long term unemployed.

Fas limerick can't really help find anyone get a job as what they have at the moment is 52 jobs this week, 55 last week, 72 week before.

Thats not many jobs for 22,000+ unemployed.

Happy job hunting it will drive you nuts :)
