I was thinking of getting this for slugs actually-are you telling me that it doesn't work on slugs?

What else can you do to get rid of slugs then bar using slug pellets?

The one you are lloking at doesn't kill slugs.

There are various Nematodes for various pests. Nemaslug is the one you want for slugs.

I put down nemaslug ...but my jury is still out on it. I have it down 2 or 3 weeks, and theres still a few around:confused:

    Have a look here also

So the usefullness of nemslug is still questioned-does the product work?

For the time being im going to put some of this http://www.johnstowngardencentre.ie/earth-matters-organic-slug-blocker-granules/em_slug_blockerpd.aspx around my plants-will see if it works

Do birds eat slugs in the night? do we have hedgehogs native to ireland?

    Two words - Beer trap.

I find the best thing to do is to sink a small can with a few inches of beer into the garden. The slugs crawl in, have a good old drink and die happy.

I used to put it in a bowl but I used to worry about the birds getting drunk. My mother swears that she saw a drunken blackbird narrowly miss flying into a wall one day.

Ok so i bought a pack of this http://www.johnstowngardencentre.ie/earth-matters-organic-slug-blocker-granules/em_slug_blockerpd.aspx and put it around some of my plants-dont know if it will work though-to be honest the product looks like seaside material.

    Are these effective http://www.theorganiccentre.ie/node/816 ??
can they be used next to edible fruit and vegetables?

I have used the nemaslug, but also home made slugtraps which are modified old plastic bottles, they dont let rain or birds get access.

    http://connemaracroft.blogspot.com/2010/05/slug-traps.html

I did find that when I put down sand that reduced the amount of slug damage, but I am fortunate to have a beach from where I could draw a few buckets of sand.

I have put together a thing on passive and active pest measures but its too long to copy and paste
    http://connemaracroft.blogspot.com/2010/05/organic-pest-control-passive-and-active.html

Anyway, I know the Nemaslug from Mr Middleton is the one for slugs.
However, this is the first year I have done a kitchen garden, so it is a little hard to tell.

I do feel that since applicaton of the Nemaslug, in conjunction with the slugtraps and sand that the damage has fallen right back in comparison with how it was earlier in the season.

The Nemasys is for other pests like leatherjacket, cutworm etc. but I have found supernemos far easier to use, and it is an Irish product, available from Johnstown or direct from nemo.ie
    And its an Irish product.

If you have access to old copper wire and are growing in raised beds, you could take a look at what Sinewave has done at http://www.gardenplansireland.com/forum/about100-15.html

I am thinking of doing something similar, but with a battery system.

But, the best way really is to go lamping for the buggers, go out in the evening with a stick and a needle, and collect as many as possible, this will have a real marked effect as you are removing the egg layers, killing one kills a hundred.
