Hi all! We have been experiencing an issue on site where threads have been missing the latest postings. The platform host Vanilla are working on this issue. Hi all starting to build up to W/C these are my thoughts.

Probably about 8 teams with a real chance of winning Brazil, Spain, Argentina, England,Germany,Italy,France,Holland.

Personally I'm going for Germany or Brazil winning with England (due to Capello influence) in final . I think Spain will make semis, Argentina could come good, Holland unpredictable, Italy and France just won't have enough.

Going for Klose or Rooney top scorer

I'm going for Italy with Di Natale as top scorer. Cannavaros last hurrah!

Gonna go for the Dutch, think its their time. Spain wont make the final. There, I've said it.

RVP top goal scorer but id say the brazilians will win it

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 8,595 ✭✭✭bonerm

Brazil will win it (penality-shootouts aside of course). The way they swotted Ireland away in March (even tho imho we are a good team atm and were taking the game seriously) indicates they are just leagues ahead of everyone.

Brazil are the only team to have won the WC outside of its own continent, 3 times in total - in Europe, North America and Asia. Now for the clean sweep. They are the most successful team in the competition. They landed in SA last week when most teams hadn't even finalised their final 23 and were diddling about for the press. Brazil's main aim this year is not to entertain but to win at all costs. Brazil to beat Italy in the final. WC finalists dont throw up surprises.

Yes also like to see the Dutch do it but it's a heart says yes but head says no thing.

Agreed I also thought teams are leaving it a bit late to get over journey and acclimatise.
Interesting to see what effect playing in Africa for first time will have.

I fancy Serbia to do well as dark horses.

I fancy Spain to win it overall and David Villa to be top scorer. He should get a few goals against the likes of Chile, Hondouras and Switzerland in the group stage.

Brazil or Spain to win it for me.

I fancy Rooney or Villa to be top scorer.

New Zealand maybe not get out of group but fancy them to get few points.

fancy Dutch to do well. There always seems to be surprise or two in semi final but they never seem reach final, Ivory Coast could be in that bracket

It'd be interesting also to discuss who the world cup flops will be. There's usually one fancied team who won't make it out of the group or to the quarters.

For me it wouldn't be a major suprise to see France flop

If RVP, VDV, Sneijder and Robben stay fit I have a feeling this could be Holland's year.

Also think the Germans will go out in the group stages.

I'd have to pick England here. They should win the Group handy enough and will have an easy second-round draw as well. They will play the runners-up of Group D. IMO this will be Australia. Oz will give them something to think about but England have to advance here. Then they may play the winners of Group A in the quarters which may be France. God, this is depressing me, actually England have a great chance of getting to the semi-final where they will be annihilated by Brazil, thank God for that.

I think the winner will be from Brazil,Spain or Argentina.

I hope the Argies win it. Their manager may blow it for them, hopefully not.

Looking at the Group France have I can see them flopping. I like the look of Mexico, South Africa have the whole home advantage and they should be used to the altitude and Uruguay have a few decent players.

Using the BBC thing I came up with:

    France vs Greece
    Argentina vs Uruguay
    England vs Serbia
    Germany vs USA
    Netherlands vs Slovakia
    Italy vs Cameroon
    Brazil vs Switzerland
    Spain vs Portugal

    France vs England
    Germany vs Uruguay
    Netherlands vs Brazil
    Italy vs Spain

    England vs Brazil
    Germany vs Spain

    Brazil vs Spain

England have a great 23 this time around and 'in my opinion' with Capello, England have a great chance. With the mild conditions heat shouldnt be a problem although altitude may go against them if they are chasing a game.

The usual teams will be fighting for the semi places, I reckon ,as many others do, Spain on form have a great chance as do Brazil.
Holland had a great qualifying group which they won at a canter and look a great outside bet, but we all know they are the best team never to have won it.
Germany are nearly always guaranteed a semi final place so we cant rule them out with their penalty taking history.

However taking everyrthing into account, I've bet on an England V Spain final with England to win.

    Winners: Brazil/Italy
    3rd/4th: Germany/Holland

    Brazil to win for me.

Obviously Spain have a great chance, but I think they could struggle if they come up against Ivory Coast in the second round. Fancy Italy to flop big time also.

  • Registered Users Posts: 3,034 ✭✭✭pavb2

How do people reckon Portugal,Denmark Ivory Coast will get on. For me they could flop but equally make semi finals.

Ivory coast if they do get through will have most likely have spain same with portugal. As brazil are expected to top the group.

So sucks to come 2nd in that group tbh

    Portugal to flop.

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 9,287 ✭✭✭davyjose

    Portugal to flop.

the problem for portugal is unless they finish ahead of brazil, they'll face spain, and would be favourites to lose both. I wouldn't be 100% confident they'll lose both though. spain won't relish their 2nd round match, regardless.

Thats what i was going to say, serbia as the dark horses and spain to win it (hopefully).

I think Queiroz is a weak manager and personality, and does not get the best out of individuals like Scolari could.
Ivory Coast to pip them for 2nd place I think!

Tempted to put a few quid on Denmark for semis

I don't know how to do it but it would be good to see a poll not just winner but may be down to Q/F

England will beat Germany in 90mins and meet France, beat them and meet spain in the final where they will lose.
