I was wondering if anyone could have a look at these answers I wrote for Irish to see if there Is anything I could change or add:) You can post your own samples here too:)

These are for the question where you have to write about a story you studied (lol sorry i don't have my exam papers at the mo will get proper question number etc. later :p)

    B
    (i) Rinne mé staidéar ar an sceal "An t-Ádh" le Pádraig ó Conaire. Sceal faoin mbás é an scéal seo.

(ii) Sa scéal seo scríobh an t-údar ar eachtra a tharla nuair a bhí sé óg. Bhí Pádraig agus a chairde - Séamus agus Micilín, thíos ar an trá. Ní maith leo bheith ag obair agus shocraigh siaad dul chug margodh muc trasna na farraige. Shocraigh siad dul i bhfolach i measa malí muca ar bhád Tom. Bhí ar duine amháin fanacht a ra do Tom gur fágadh dhá mhuc eile sa bhád. Fuair siad trí thráithnín agus tharraing na buachaillí. Fuair Pádraig an ceann is faide agus bhí air fanacht. Bhí díoma air. Chuaigh an bheirt eile le Tom agus iad sa mhálaí muca. Bhí Pádraig ag caoineadh. Ach cad a tharla? Chuaigh an bád faoi. Bádh gach duine. Bhí Pádraig sábhháilte ar an trá agus bhí a chairde marbh. Thogh sé an traithnín fada - traithnín an aidh. Bhí an t-ádh air mar bhí sé beo. Sceal faoin mbás é an scéal seo mar bádh gach duine ar ar an bháid.

    (i) Rinne mé staidear ar an scéal "Díoltas an mada rua" le Seán Ó Dálaigh. Tá gliceas sa sceal seo. ( or would sceal faoin gliceas é an scéal seo be better?)

(ii)Is seanfhocal é - chomh glic le mada rua. Fuair feirmeoir amach an fhírinne.

Bhí gcearc, lachain agus géanna ar a feirmeoir. lá amháin bhí sé ag obair sa pairc, nuair a chonaic sé sionnach. Shuigh sé síos ag faire an sionnach. Rug an sionnach ar ngiorra agus mharaigh sé é. Ba mhaith leis an feirmeoir an giorra. Shuigh sé in aice le bearna sa sceach agus nuair a tháinaig an mada rua lig an feirmeoir béic uafásach. Scaoil an mada rua an giorra as a mbéal agus rith sé. Fuair an feirmeoir an giorra agus thug sé abhaile é. Thug sé faoi deara an mada rua ag leanúint agus ag faire. Bhí beíle breá ar an feirmeoir agus a bhean an oiche sin. Bhí siad ag gaire faoi conas a fuair sé an giorre. Chuaigh siad a chodladh agus níor éirigh siad go luath sa mhaidin. Nuair a chuaigh an feirmeoir amach chonaic sé clúmh agus cleití sa chlos. Mharaigh an sionnach gach gé, cearc agus lachan. Fuair an mada rua díoltas sa dheireadh.

is there any way to refer the story back to gliceas or is it fine as it is?

Fuair mé do litir ar maidin agus bhí áthas an domhain orm, tá súil agam go bhufuil tú i mbarr na sláite. Tá mé go maith. Chonaic mé scannán "kick ass" an luan seo caite!
Fan go gcloise tú an scéal! Chuaigh mé ag síopadóireacht nuair a rith mé isteach mó sean chara Nora! Thug sí cuireadh dom dul an scannán nua sa phictiúrlann. Bhí rí rá agus rúille búille againn.
Is scannáin ghrinn é an scannáin "kick ass". Bhí mé ag gaire agus ag gaire.(couldn't think of anything better to say help!) Is scannáin eachtrúla é freisin. Is aoibhinn liom é mar bíonn sé an-greannmhar agus an-spreagúil.
Ach Ní mhaith liom cuid de na scannáin mar go raibh fuil i ngach áit. Bhí sé beagáinín fada freisin.
Caithfidh mé slán a fhágail leat anois, tá súil agam go bhfeicfidh mé go luath thú, agus ná dearmad litir a chur chugam.
    slán anois,

Bulk, bulk, bulk. My teacher was at a SLSS conference and they apparently said a page is what is needed for a A standard letter. Also use some conditional such as the ubiquitous "Ní chreidfeá cad a tharla".

how much proses and filiochts are people learning for the exam. For prose i have studied 2 pretty well and for the filiocht i also have done 2 pretty well. We have studied like 3-4 proses and filiochts in class but i just chose to do 2 because they are the most adaptable to the themes that come up and are probably going to give me more marks.

How much are you guys learning???

  • Registered Users Posts: 3,434 ✭✭✭VG31

My teacher has covered 2 proses and 2 poems. I think we are going to do one more poem. All of them have many themes/feelings.

  • Registered Users Posts: 506 ✭✭✭Xgracie

We're only doing 1 poem and then I'm just learning an answer for an T-Ádh for the prose I think? For say grá can it be loosely linked like for an tÁdh could I say you see love as he loved his friends?

I've done An t-Ádh as well and I've learned off an answer. Grá isn't the best feeling/theme for An t-Ádh, brotherly love or friendship is better. Other themes/feelings like nature, luck, death, foolishness, country life etc. are better suited. One of the poems I've studied covers a lot of feelings; love, hate, anger, violence and it's also very easy to learn and quote from. I would advise learning the most general proses/poems. :)

I've done 2 poems and 2 proses (and I think we're doing 1 more poem).

Gah I feel like we havnt done anything for grá (we did Caula too, more death sadness blah blah blah) would it be almost guaranteed that a more morbid theme would come up every year?

I've done Calua as well :) (I didn't realise that so many schools did the same proses/poems).

Usually the themes are similar enough each year (they asked a type of person last year which was the first time), they can't really ask anything too specific. Calua covers themes/feelings like brón, uaigneas, nadúr/dúlra, cruálacht. So between those two stories, you should be covered. :)
