Erm the metoffice has a warning out for us.... i think since we are under a band we have more risk...

Dosen't work that way Owen. In sum, what is causing your rain and mine is a developing occlusion that is running down from Scotland. Areas further east will have more in the way of sunshine within a slack, unstable airmass which will trigger off showers later, which could merge into the occluded zone as it pushes east later so hence the risk zone on the Estofex.

    Going chasing today John? :pac:

    From today's Torro forecast :
Low-level convergence zones are progged by hi-res models, especially in eastern Eire, eastern N Ireland, and central Scotland. Stretching of vertical vorticity along these zones brings the risk of a few funnel clouds and perhaps brief tornadoes.

Yea some really nice convection going on here aswell , fingers crossed!

Sorry Owen , coleraine has very little storm risk today. As much as we in the southeast and midlands hate hogging all the storms we'll take what were given.:D

Why were people in the west/northwest dissaponted they didn't get anything last night , GFS and other models didn't show any proper storm risk for yesterday or last night , today was allways shown to be the day. Where did people get the idea there was meant to be widespread storms up there?

As M.T says this afternoon was always the big potential!

    From today's Torro forecast :
two things shocking about this 'brief tornados' and use of the word 'eire':p

Actually, the only airport of the 7 main airports on the island of Ireland with a mention of thunderstorms in its TAF is......Derrry Eglington! Slight chance of heavy thunderstorms (from 10am to 7pm....forecast only goes to 7pm)

    EGAE 210801Z 2109/2118 28006KT 9999 SCT008 BKN020
    TEMPO 2109/2118 6000 RA BKN012
    PROB30
    TEMPO 2109/2118 4000 +TSRA BKN008
    BECMG 2114/2117 36015G25KT

I would expect a big change in the 11Z TAFs

Listening to the Dublin Airport Control Tower, it is interesting to hear how busy it is. No reports of any difficult conditions for past 20 mins.

Still great to listen to all the different airlines.

    EDIT:
Just a mention of the weather from an Irish pilot (aer arann i think) saying 'heavy' weather moving up quickly from the south
Another pilot has requested to be allowed to redirect over Baldonnel due to the weather.
Five miles west of dublin airport - pilot says no turbulence but 'very heavy rain'
Another pilot reporting 'quite a lot of weather between us and Dublin'

My mate on duty at the Met Office today has just sent me a pic of the whole of the UK lightning-free apart from two strikes just south of Dublin at 10.25am. Certainly looks pretty dark to my south and some great towering cumulus going up in the brighter skies to the north, too !
