Hi all! We have been experiencing an issue on site where threads have been missing the latest postings. The platform host Vanilla are working on this issue. A workaround that has been used by some is to navigate back from 1 to 10+ pages to re-sync the thread and this will then show the latest posts. Thanks, Mike.

    Tony Barrett:
Hope you've got a good lawyer Rashid, accusing a journalist of taking backhanders is a clear libel. Particularly as at no point have I claimed that the Liverpool fans have lost a battle with Benitez going. I did say he has lost a battle. Your other criticisms are valid.

he didnt accuse him though, he asked him a question, there's a big difference.

    nice deflection from TB though

where the heck did you get that from?

it think people went as far as 'pretty good'.

on the players; if that's true, well then, it's just not good at all. plain and simple. especially Torres. he was happy a matter of a couple of months ago from what i could tell.

my guess is this has been in the pipeline for a while, known by certain personnel, and if Torres goes, it's a huge statement of how bleak things are looking. it would be a massive vote of no-confidence in the boardroom regime.

Not quite what you're referring to, mate - I've only been keeping half an eye on the thread. If it's about players being unhappy with Rafa I'm pretty sure it's been said by various media people that that's not true. Maybe I'm misunderstanding though.

What I can tell you, and I posted it in the Liverpool thread at least a month ago, is that both Torres and Gerrard have been unhappy with the club for some time and are considering their options, but it is 100% to do with the club's performance this season, not Rafa personally.

my 'what are you talking about' was in reference to your claim that people think Rafa has been an unmitigated success in the transfer market. i'm pretty sure nobody thinks that. but i may be wrong.

apologies for the lack of clarity.

i couldn't argue with this whatsoever.

although i do believe that if the club were in a state whereby the could be given assurances that the playing squad would be added to with quality, i think there'd be a lot less chance of them going.

if they go, i would blame it on a combination of the poor season, with, primarily IMO, the lack of support from board level to invest in the squad.

    Comment From Tom Hicks
Tony do you not agree with me that the club is in a much better state now than when I took over?

    Tony Barrett:
You're spot on Tom. As ever. There are £351 million reasons why the club is in tip top shape. It's a shame you haven't visited Liverpool lately to see the fruits of your labour for yourself. The people over here love you.

    Comment From George Gilletts Mum
Have you seen my son? I can't find him anywhere.

    Tony Barrett:
Join the club Mrs Gillett. There are plenty of people who are desperate to know where your custodian of a son is.

Indeed, the "unmitigated success" in the post was just for effect, there isn't a manger in football who hasn't had numerous failings

We'll have to see what happens, however I can't help but notice that the sacking happened mere hours after Gerrard and Carragher, the old guard of the squad, were on a plane to South Africa. I mean, if they intended to sack Benitez, they could have done it any time, so why then? Dunno, just conjecturing at this point, but I'd say Rafa had the support of the senior players and the owners knew this, so waited until they were gone.

edit: sorry, maybe jumping the gun with some of that post, he of course hasn't been sacked.

would also explain why the lads with the Spanish team are said to be furious that the media is trying to claim players had any part in it.

i think we're all talking in the assumption that he is gone, so i wouldn't worry about 'jumping the gun'.

i think it's an interesting point RE: the senior players. i've always believed he had their support, and only at times this season have I maybe doubted that Stevie is totally on board. but he's also a moany git.

either way, i firmly believe the likes of Torres, Masch, Carra and Reina are fully behind the manager.

On the senior players being behind it the only ones who I could possibly see as even possibles are Gerrard, Carra, Torres, Masch, Benni, Rierawinger.

If they are responsible yetsre still looking to move away, it will be very hard for them to retain any sort of credibility.

Liverpool FC today confirmed that Rafael Benitez is to leave the club by mutual consent.

Mr Benitez relinquishes his position as team manager after six years and the Board of Directors would like to place on record their grateful thanks for his services and wish him all the best in his future career.

The Board has now asked Managing Director Christian Purslow, with the assistance of Club Ambassador Kenny Dalglish, to begin a formal search to identify and assess potential candidates for the managerial position.

No timescale has been placed on the process and Liverpool FC will make no further statement until a new manager is appointed.

LFC Chairman Martin Broughton said: "Rafa will forever be part of Liverpool folklore after bringing home the Champions League following the epic final in Istanbul but after a disappointing season both parties felt a fresh start would be best for all concerned.''

Rafael Benitez said: "It is very sad for me to announce that I will no longer be manager of Liverpool FC. I would like to thank all of the staff and players for their efforts.

"I'll always keep in my heart the good times I've had here, the strong and loyal support of the fans in the tough times and the love from Liverpool. I have no words to thank you enough for all these years and I am very proud to say that I was your manager.

"Thank you so much once more and always remember: You'll never walk alone."
