Is this being aired on TV? I was in the local pub last year and all the bands were on the TV in the pub. Is this a Pub Channel?

Yeah it seemed like good buzz. Saw a bit of Imelda May at the Olympia while working there and having not known her stuff at all, I dug it. Bit of rockabilly to get the place going.

Any one know who the surprise act was in Hogans?

  • Registered Users Posts: 1,728 ✭✭✭Col200sx

I'm still scratching my head wondering who the "special guests" at Folans Quay in Galway were.

Got there at 5.30, so got in there in good time, this is what I thought:

Imelda May was good, great voice
Newton Faulkener was great, best act of the night
Empire Saints were ok, but good to see an up and coming band play
Sharon Shannon got the crowd buzzing and was good in that sense (Lucia Evans sang one song during her set)
The Magic Numbers were very disppointing I thought
Finally David Gray was good, but didn't blow the crowd away

So who were the special guests then?

Galway Bay FM John Richards was the mc, and Lucia Evans singing one song, were they considered the "special guests". Confused:confused:

Oh, and bad form that the price of the pint of Guinness was more expensive than Galway on a normal day. €4 per pint, and not a thing else on sale (with alcohol in it). I thought there was meant to be promotions on.

Arthur must be smiling in his grave:D

I would imagine David Gray was the special guest and €4 a pint is a bargain compared to some pub prices I've seen.

    All or Nothing?

    What song is that?
Would loved to have seen them in a pub.

David Gray was listed on the website already. The website said this:

    Folan Quay, Galway Harbour

Bands: David Gray, Imelda May, Newton Faulkner, The Magic Numbers, Sharon Shannon, Empire Saints, plus very special guests.
    Tickets: €10

So as you see, all listed above played, who were the "plus very special guests"???? Cos I didn't see any.

Haha was the same for the storehouse. No special guests that I could see. As far as I know, the script were due to drop into the storehouse for a set. Looks like the special guests for the big venues were sent off to the pub gigs instead.

Liam Fray apparently turned up in Bruxelles and played an acoustic set. Annoying cos I would have liked to have gone to that.
