Hi all! We have been experiencing an issue on site where threads have been missing the latest postings. The platform host Vanilla are working on this issue. A workaround that has been used by some is to navigate back from 1 to 10+ pages to re-sync the thread and this will then show the latest posts. Thanks, Mike.

A lot of people missing the point here. Goalkeeper can go anywhere he wants on a pitch, score goals etc.

This is about registering a player as a goalkeeper when he clearly isn't. Up until recently squads were always 22 man...some teams chanced it and brought 2 goalies, others brought 3. Fifa upped the squad number to 23 so this decision would not have to be made anymore - all teams 3 goalies.

    N. Korea acting the maggot. They were always going to get pulled up on it.

Well, consider the situation where one goalkeeper gets injured in a game or training and will miss the rest of the tournament. Once the first game is played, injury replacements to the squad are not allowed. For their remaining games, the only goalkeeper is the man on the pitch, noone on the subs bench. As well as the possibility the team could then end up with a second injury, there is also the possibility the opposition will simply go in hard on the keeper at every corner and free kick, any sort of injury and you're playing a team with no professional goalkeeper.

in the history of the WC, the third choice keeper has been used 4 times

all have been through choice, none forced by injury/suspension

its a stupid rule by FIFA, it should be changed IMO

I actually fear for the worst player for them. If they need to play kim out field, he may get accidently shot

Of course the goalie has to be registered different from outfield players though. Sure there are different rules surrounding them when on the field.

It is a bit stupid by FIFA though. If a manager wants to risk it with two goalkeepers, he should be allowed to. If he wants to risk it with one, he should be allowed to. There's no reason why he shouldn't, he just shouldn't be allowed to call up any replacements if they do get injured

It's because, in an emergency, with your keepers injured, teams are allowed to call up other players that are not in the squad. To stop this rare occurance from ever being abused, Fifa mandated that their must be 3 GK, and they can only be GK, otherwise, every team would name two, and then declare an emergency when they are injured.

NK clearly didn't realise this, and have wasted their 3rd choice GK position and/or brought the wrong set of strikers.

A team is as likely to lose 3 goalkeepers (from a virus or food poisoning) as it is 2. Well, obviously that doesn't stand up as a mathematical probability, but...
