MCD will not want to have to defend hundreds of small claims court cases over this. It will be easier for them to refund those that sue.

I'm curious how many concert goers generally depend on public transportation and what time does that end?

luas from the point finished at 12.30am we were told by the gardai, we had to walk back into town

I think Axl was right. The bottles could have been full of piss (and Hepatitis) so I can't blame him. Sucks for the fans, but a few bad eggs and all that!

pearl jam played till after 11 if memory serves me correct

Pearl Jam were a victim of the curfew, they put the house lights on at the end of Alive and they were forced to preform the last song with the house lights on.

Jump to the five min mark of this video I shot to see where Eddie just sits down in mock protest, has a cigarette and opens a bottle of wine.

He also praises the Dublin crowd, particularly those up front.

I think Axl should have just turned up on time.

we walked all over the floor and never once did security either tell us or usher us towards the exit, i didn't see security tell anyone else either, i can't speak for those in the seats but down below on the floor that was the case. i saw security forcefully remove one guy near the stage but that was it. i have been in that venue on numerous occasions since it re-opened and have been often told to leave (prime example was during ufc93 with my disabled friend), however i saw nothing of the sort last night

i did however see with my own eyes people taking it upon themselves to leave by the hundreds as soon as the band left the stage (within seconds)

i can't speak for those in the seats

I was in the seating area so its understandable that you would not have been aware what our local Staff/Security were telling us - like I said - I emailed video proof to that effect to MCD etc..

& I'm not implying that everyone who left was told by Security/Staff that the gig was over - but I was & can prove it to MCD ..

I don't think MCD are to blame for this.

They didn't do anything wrong, they told people to hang on as they where trying to sort it. GNR did eventually play the full set.

If the crowd didn't bottle Axl then they would have stayed on, so really it's the 2 or 3 people that threw bottles.

MCD can't be to blame for them going on late.

It's unfortunate that people where nolet back in, I don't see why they didn't re-admit people who had tickets to show.

They should offer free tickets to another show, as a goodwill offer though.

MCD are to blame for this. They should have a clause in the contract like "on by 9, finish at 11 or you don't get paid". Then there would be no problem. It's that simple.

  • Registered Users Posts: 10,643 ✭✭✭✭Mental Mickey

Axl probably chose to ignore said clause????

Axl probably chose to ignore said clause????

If MCD don't deliver a Gun's N Roses concert (in the eyes of a judge) then they are in breach and ticketholders are entitled to a refund and possibly damages (note that most promoters try to avoid damages by attempting to limit their liability to the face value of the ticket).

MCD can then sue GnR under the terms of the contract that exists between them to recover their losses. The most likely reason why Axl came back on is that MCD threatened to sue / not pay due to non-performance. A better contract would have fixed this problems. Most of these artists are not happy to work for nothing !

Which is why they will happily refund if you send them a summons.

What happened last night and on many occasions here is a lot to do with morons going to gigs pissed. They ruin gigs for everybody else and at the end of the day the same clowns can't remember the gig the next day. I am not condoning the histrionic brat himself for one minute, but most people know what he is like and what it takes to send him over the edge. Anyway bar all the negative stuff we enjoyed the rest of the bands performance and musically the band were spot on and his voice was excellent. Here are a few photos. I would also commend DJ Ashba for his performance as we were close to him all night and he put a lot into the night. The severe lack of information from the stage and the stagnant security did not help either. I do feel sorry for those who travelled long journies to the gig. 8F27046EA1164C17BC8C981A7E919B1B-0000336305-0001891173-00800L-B46A1CB68E8E4C2FA28EA50AB0F4F453.jpg

Oh boo hoo. Suck it up and rock on.

As people keep pointing out, this was a rock show. If Axel Rose can use that excuse for being late/to be expected then the audience can use the same one too.

Light plastic bottles ffs. You'd think the crowd were throwing bags of hammers.

i was there last night, lots of bs being written here

first up the supporting band were still playing till 9.15pm so no chance were gnr coming on stage at 9. they did hit the stage at 10.25pm, axel got soaked with the first drink thrown at him and i could see he was mega pissed, the second bottle was just thrown on stage and he left

Yea right, it was the support bands fault that they were late. Preventing G n R from coming on. That poor band had to resort to talking absolute ****e and reeling off names of rockers and talking about mantras because the MCD guys told them to over play. They played for 75min at Reading and 90min here! An hour and a half of ****ing support band!?? Sham. MCD could have explained a delay said we're extending curfew and put on some cool lights and played some rock music loudly and people might have kept a buzz and danced a bit and relaxed. But they did the opposite thus creating the "hostile" atmosphere. No wonder the **** got a drink thrown at him when he walked on. What did he ****ing expect? Cheers? Yea Axl, we're so grateful that you're here, forget that you disrespected us and kept us waiting here and now have 25 min to play for us before curfew. Tin god prick.

I would contact my credit card company in the first instance. They may at least put some pressure on MCD. I might not get a refund, but MCD would probably write better contracts in future.

I went to a Don McLean concert earlier in the year. After he had played a string of hits including "American Pie" he then said "that's the contract fufilled you can go home if you want but I'm now going to play some fun stuff". It makes me think that his contract actually stated he had to play his best known songs if he wanted to get paid !

Hah, way to put words in my mouth. I did no such thing. I was pointing out how they were making a giant issue out of some plastic bottles.

The words being used, such as 'bottled' or even 'glass bottles' makes it out to be a million times worse than it was.

MCD needed a scapegoat and they found it in some plastic bottles. All the attention is going towards that and away from the fact that Axel Rose, being a giant diva queen, came unacceptably late and screwed the night up for everyone.

As for the moderator comment, I'm not a moderator of this forum. Therefore I do not have to 'act' like one in here.

The only way to let them know what you think of their "organisational skills" is to boycott their events.

So, whats the plan or options for requesting refunds? I reckon strength in numbers and if we all follow the same route MCD will have to do something.

I for one did'nt take a day off work, drive a round trip of seven hours and spend 250 euro plus for twenty minutes music.

    +1

Even before the "plastic" bottle incident Axl was in a pissy mood. No apology to 14,000 annoyed fans for being late, and at the start when one of the crew was trying to hook / fix his ear piece, he just grabbed the ear pieces and box and threw them off stage. When Axl came back from his "diva" episode he didn't want to be there, he put a right downer on the night.

Way I see it MCD & Axl are to blame, MCD with bad organising and Axl being a "spoilt" child. If you ask me Axl was lucky it was only a plastic bottle thrown, if he was any later coming onstage there could of well been a riot.

Anyone familiar with the Guns N Roses song Get In The Ring? Just heard it there,
makes for some comical listening in light of recent events. Axl Roses mid song rant in particular where he gives out to journalists for "rippin off the ****ing kids while theyre paying theyre hard earned money" made me laugh. Then he starts talking about how hes gonna kick their asses, better hope Mick Wall at Kerrang isn't armed with a plastic bottle.

Would love to, but they organise bands that might never come back like KISS and RATM... Might just start going to Download or Sonisphere in future.

A boards moderator condoning throwing bottles at people, wow, I've seen it all now

They were not bottles (in the true sense of the word) they were soft plastic containers that are designed especially for concerts.

I was at Green Day and the lead signer kept drinking half a pint and fcuking the the still half full plastic pint into the crowd.

Axl is just an ego maniac, to come running on like that at 10.30pm showed no respect at all, what did he think?

That we would be so grateful for his lordship's presence, us being nothing more than mere peasants and all.

He thinks he can do what the fcuk he wants and not get a reaction because of who he is.

Maybe that is the case elsewhere, but thank fcuk we don't suck celebs ass that much in this country.

I am proud of the Irish people last night that boo'd his sorry ass.

14,000 people gave him €70 last night and he couldn't give them enough respect to show up even close to on-time.

If just ten people gave me €70 to be somewhere for two hours, I'd be there before them.

Axl is lucky he didn't get a hiding. Who the f**k does he think he is? He did last weekend as well. Idiot, and anyone who shelled out money expecting him to show any bit of respect has screwed up. He's a t1t, and hopefully he'll never show up here again...
