What is the best route from Dublin to Tullamore via N/M7 to portlaoise and up or via m4/m6 to kilbeggan and down. Not worrried about avoiding tolls just need the quickest route for a one off run

M7 turn off for EMO then Mountmellick.
M4 via toll road to Kilbeggan turn left for Tullamore.
It really depends on what part of Dublin you are coming from.

taking the m4/m6 motorway from liffey valley its about 50mins to tullamore or from oconnel bridge with traffic add an half hour extra.
the n7 route would be longer but open to correction.

From M50 - at Liffey Valley via M4/M6 and Kilbeggan - 50 minutes and toll.
    FRom M50 - at Newlands via M7 / Emo / Monutmellick - 65 min.

M7 takes you miles out of your way: plenty of backroads.

    I suggest: N4>M4>M6>N52 South.

Agree. Prior to M6 i would have said drag the car Tullamore-Monasterevin onto M7 (I used to do similar route Athlone-Naas)

But now, that would be daft.

Rule of thumb - If the dualler route adds less than 10% distance-wise to your journey, use it. Quicker, safer and (lets face it) less scope for horn-honking and throat kicking
