Hi all! We have been experiencing an issue on site where threads have been missing the latest postings. The platform host Vanilla are working on this issue. A workaround that has been used by some is to navigate back from 1 to 10+ pages to re-sync the thread and this will then show the latest posts. Thanks, Mike.

Forums such as this tend to move more slowly than you seem to be expecting. 18 minutes isn't much. If you came back tomorrow and there had been no responses then perhaps posting again would make sense.

sorry i think you got me wrong. i was complaing that 24 people viewed it and never bothered telling me how to fix the pictures so they show up.
i wasnt asking why there was no opinions or trying to get people to comment on it. i just wanted to know how put up photos

Are you taking the url from facebook and removing www.facebook.com from the start of it? Now I know your girlfriend's name, I hope you're happy :) Don't use facebook for sharing images, go somewhere like www.imagehost.org and use the url they give you. Or get an account with pix.ie, flickr or deviantart.

No that's what I was referring to. Those 24 people don't owe you anything, just be patient.

First of all - well done for putting your work up for comment ! It is great to see it.

    In terms of comment and critique (just remember - these are personal opinions - take what you can from them);

Overall, I quite like #4 but imho the others aren't great.

The reason I think they aren't great / could be greatly improved is the general clutter that is evident in the picture - it doesn't make for anything aesthetically pleasing in the image. This, probably a pity as the dog's look like they could be a lot of fun. The other difficulty is that pet photography can be really difficult if your pets are well.... excitable.

The thing (in particular) I like about #4 is that you've gone for the unusual shooting angle. This works and creates interest as its a view that we don't normally see.

I would suggest the next time you have the dogs out for a walk on a nice evening - pop along to a park and try to re-shoot - you will be amazed at what a more simplified background will do for your shooting. Do the alternate angle thing along with normal shooting positions.

In general - simplifying your composition will produce better images (this not always the case but it tends to work)

    Hope this helps.

ah but its nice to give a hand you know. ill start a pix account thanks for your help.

There also a detailed tutorial in the FAQ's if you host with pix.ie and flickr (pix.ie tends to be easier as it generates boards compatible code that you just copy and paste).

Also on the view thing (I appreciate you are not complaining :)) - the are lots of lurkers that never post, and lots of viewers who don't even have a boards account - these will generally read posts but never post. Yes, i'm making excuses - :D

My humble opinion without reading the other's -

#1 seems the best exposed/processed, but the pole ruins it bit

#2 - The dogs are over exposed, Lightroom or any program that's good for recovering would fix that. And crop out the mat or whatever it is down front, very distracting.

#3 - The dog jumping out of frame is bad, without his head it would have been better to crop him out altogether.

#4 - I like this one, best of the set :) nicely captured the dog in motion

The others don't do much for me I'm afraid. For plain, straight on Dog shots I would suggest trying some other types of processing. Sepia, monochrome etc ... they're a bit contrasty in normal colour, however you processed them.

Also, on a side note - I use both Pix and Flickr, I find it much harder to get any feedback on Pix. I get more comments/mail/tips etc on Flickr but it is nice to have both. Pix just seems a bit ... empty, unless you're flooded with comments.

thanks for your opinions my turn for excuse now lol
my back garden is really clutered and small. i didnt have time to tidy up either.

Thecageyone what do you mean by over "exposed/processed". Is it the amount of light in the picture? if its to much light then i think i used to much fill light in picasa(im still only learning the ropes of it).

im going to re-edit them and post them up on flicker

edited: i wanted the pictures to show it was warm/sunny so i used more fill light(thats what its called in picasa). the originals look dull and gray so i wanted to make them brighter warmer and happier if that makes sense.

    Hi youllneverknow.

    Little thought for you
You see great sunny day, two best dogs in the world and they look so cute, the yard is ok...
We see two blurry dogs in a mess.

My point is often what you see in a picture others don't The viewer does not get the same feeling out of the picture as you do.
Having said that they are enjoyable pics.

When you shoot them again keep it simple
    Photograph the dogs only.
Watch what is beside or behind them. Move in close.

But enough of this. Enjoy the shots. Enjoy taking pics. Enjoy the results and remember enjoy.

    Hope you like the edit.
Colour balance done in Picassa 3 croping and cloning done in cs5

thats slot better then mine. when the dogs are running around its pretty hard to take a photo of just them.i get what our saying ill try focus on keeping them simple and not having to much clutter in them.
Removing the pole makes alot of difference. im stuck with picase i dont think that allows you to remove unwanted things

Over exposed means the highlights are blown/too bright/all white-no detail, post-processing is what you do back at your desktop. It includes any alterations you make at the pc really. Whichever program you use. I just thought you might have over did it a little on the contrast slider [I'm not familiar with picassa, so can't help you there] - and could maybe try some black and white or sepia versions, see how they look. Is there an adjustment brush in picassa? Where you can bring down the brightness or exposure of select areas?

Just a quick go using your resized shot in here, it was pretty small after the [much needed] crop - it's actually a larger file size after the process - but you can see I was able to bring the exposure around the dogs down a step, cropped out the distraction in the foreground and to the left of the shed. The focus is now on the dog, mainly the one standing to attention. He/she is basically keeping the image within the rule of thirds, avoiding clutter and unnecessary distractions in the backing.

    And the sepia tone -

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 417 ✭✭youllneverknow

iv done a sepia yesterday (it should be attached to this post)

picasa doesnt have the adjustment brush. ill just take it handy on the highlights and fill light next time.

iv redone the one above without sepia iv got rid of most the exposer (my opinion)

I agree that you should probably take the pictures closer, but it is hard to take a good picture if the dogs are constantly running around.:pac:

I got one good picture of my dog a while ago,I'll attach it.

All I did was mess around with contrast and saturation untill I got it the way I like it,there's loads of editing sites that allow you to do loads of stuff, you could mess around with different styles and see the results,a lot of them turn out really well.

    I love #4 btw!

good fan of this site for editing

It was one of the very rare times he sat still so I felt very lucky to manage that shot.:pac:

Like that one, very colorful with the flowers, and the dog's colour looks enhanced aswell.
