Today was the official ribbon cutting ceremony, for local officials, media and international dignitaries. The place has been open the last 2 weeks. I presume it's just today that's it's not open to the general public.

Not sure why are giving out about a great day in the city's history:

"Polski security guy" - takin' our jobs I suppose

"Suits sluggin wine" - yeah so they wear suits, so what. Glasses of Champagne were handed out to everyone there, as usual for these type of ceremonies, nothing wrong with that. Those "suits" were responsible for making this new visitors centre so don't go looking down your nose at them for enjoying the occasion. It's not being elitist to not allow the ordinary joe soap in today - they can attend any other day.

Cancerous emissions - come on ffs, you sound like you just want to bitch about it, hardly surprising though that someone here is trying to find something to criticise about something good actually happening in Waterford.

Official opening was today. A lot of the big international buyers were there, along with many of the WWRD heads. Brass and Co were playing outside for an hour to provide some entertainment to those outside.

The cheek of them suits, actually using W Crystal wine glasses to drink wine.

    A new low I'm sure.

it looks great and big improvement on the derlict buildings there also for the media tv3,rte news reports they looked good too..........

but those massive extraction ducts we saw on tv3, where are they blowing the emissions and is a town centre suitable for an industrial venture of this size, must be a health hazard would hve been better off stick to the shop and champane bar.....

    wheres penrose crystal?
penrose crystal was the original glass unique to waterford from 1783 and why not invest in it .........

rather than a bankrupt brand here since 1947 theres tons of it still sitting on the shelves of discount stores in the us...its ironic that most of it now is made in the czech where its founder came from...

Wouldn't there have been reports or whatever done for emissions, possibly as part of it getting permission?

There were reports. Its a fairly small scale furnace, and emissions aren't bad.

I'd be more worried about the emissions from the buses going there than the plant emissions. :)

The amount of crystal being produced there on an annual basis negated the need for an EIS Study. IIRC It was classified as Craft based

The acid-dipping plant is tucked away near the An Post sorting office for emissions purposes. As in Kilbarry, all byproduct (solids, liquid or air particles) is heavily patrolled by the EPA.

Yesterday was a great day for the city, let's not ruin it with unfounded allegations!

seriously Hoffman! is there something wrong with people wearing suits? & trying to turn the opening ceremony of Waterford´s number one tourist attraction into some kind of anti-Polish rant ... Lighten up man!

Congratulations to everybody involved in bringing this project to fruition & let all us Waterfordians get behind it!

The Future of Waterford is Bright & we all need to ease of on the negativity & Talk Up the city & county .... it´s a great place with so many things going for it!

I agree that Waterford City and County is a marvellous part of the country, much more than the overhyped Kerry region etc. The problem to me it seems is that right now we have nobody to champion our city at national level with minister Cullen not being replaced. The situation of what happened with Waterford glass is a sad endictment of what our Govt think of us in the South East (sorry for getting political). Congratulations to all involved in the new project, its a great step in helping us catch up with the other represented regions of this country.

Thats the GPO, the sorting office is on the Industrial Estate (Northern Extension) which is 100% appropriate for the acid dipping.

Yeah they are. There's leaflets for the new walking tour available at the tourist office on the Quay.

Please get your facts correct before posting and making an ejit out of yourself, the actual figure is just over 2.5m euro, and stop making a mockery out of the situation these ex workers find themselves in.
