Hi all! We have been experiencing an issue on site where threads have been missing the latest postings. The platform host Vanilla are working on this issue. A workaround that has been used by some is to navigate back from 1 to 10+ pages to re-sync the thread and this will then show the latest posts. Thanks, Mike.

As many of you will know, Johnny Marr has a deliciously vibrant tone, my question is how exactly could I replicate that radiant, colourful noise that he produces? I'm currently playing an American Telecaster and an Epiphone Sheraton II through a Marshall AVT 50. I've been looking to upgrade my amp for a while so suggestions are welcome. I will also be travelling to Canada and am looking to upgrade my acoustic if anyone has any recommendations.

He mostly used a Fender Twin, probably with some subtle chorus on a lot of songs. I think a lot of his sound on records comes from multi-tracking though.

I don't want to even try and get into the "How soon is now" thing. They should just make some kind of pedal that can do that...

This video might explain the how soon is now sound a bit. Guy says something about playing an amp into an amp... or something... Either way for ask it's a fairly clean sound, lots of sparkly twang, rickenbacker maybe?

    This might help also: http://smithsonguitar.blogspot.com/2008/12/johnny-marrs-gear.html

I think he used 3 amps or something like that.

Also, Mike(in the video) makes some cool stuff. I think you really need 2 tremolos to do it right though.

    OP,
everything you need to know is available on this excellent site -
    http://smithsonguitar.blogspot.com/
There's a section there on Ask.

and btw, how soon is now is a non vibrato guitar recorded, then played back through 4 twins with vibrato.
