Does Donegal county have a nickname e.g. Kerry = The Kingdom, Meath = The Royal etc. I don't recall ever hearing one for ourselves. Anyone know if we have one?

Well, I've heard it called the Forgotten County a lot - and for very obvious reasons ;)

IIRC Tír Chonaill is not the whole of Donegal. Doesn't Donegal consist of Tír Chonaill and Inishowen?

I think the proper term would be "we don't have a clue what it's about so we'll take it out on the people we voted in based on who our parents voted for and who we'll vote for again"

Listen dude, go troll somewhere else.

    Infraction given.

When writing my address I always put Tír Chonaill instead of Dún na nGall. I much prefer the former. I also didn't realise that it only covered a certain part of the county.
With regard to the nicknames thing I think that the answer to my question is that we don't really have one. Those ones in Wikipedia seem more like made up ones just for the sake of having one, although a few of you seem to have heard of The Herring Gutters.
I quite like The Forgotten County myself. Kind of makes me feel independent of the rest of the country.

I think he was pretty accurate meself.

Anyway, b.o.t. I'd say The Herring Gutters is probably the most accurate, historically wise. Same as The Tribesmen, The Kingdom, The Royal County etc.

I've always refered to it as the forgotten county due to the fact that south of Sligo most people have to ask what part of Ireland we're in. I never knew it was an actual nickname for the county.
Nor did I realise Tir Chonaill didn't refer to the whole county.
I'd never heard any of the other nicknames before.

I've come to refer to it as 'boardsieregionnorthwestdonegal' myself.

Well we were the unfortunate who had to emigrate so we still know it as 'Gods County' or 'Sunny Dunny':)

I don't think emigration was that exclusive.

You've lost me here - where was it suggested in that post that emigration was exclusive? And exclusive to what - or whom?
