I would like to get the father one of these for Father's Day and would probably purchase from Komplett if they weren't in such a meltdown at the moment.

Can anyone recommend one of these? Their TV is HD ready but only has a DVI port (so I guess they wouldn't get sound on MKV or other HD files).

Would it be possible to get one of these delivered before the weekend?

There is a reason I am not purchasing from Komplett.

I dont think the drive is necessary ftm.

    I am looking at a 1080i one from Amazon.co.uk for £40

That device is fine for normal bog standard 'DVD rips', but it has limitations on the size of the video resolution it will play back, so read the reviews carefully to understand what you're buying.

Users on that Amazon link have done a good job of pointing out the good, as well as bad things, about the player.

If you're just playing back standard rips, this device might suit you.. and not break the Piggybank.

dvi doesnt play any sound at all you will have to use the optical lead for that part, personally like the ac ryan mini or xtreamer but seeing as its for your parents the wd hd player shoud be ok
