the pools filtration system pumps water through the panal

the panal gets all wet on the outside when it rains

does the rain on the panal this have the effect of cooling the pool water

should i turn it off when it rains ?

Are you familiar with ST energy? Do you own already a solar thermal collector?

Usually the piping diameter of a ST flat panel collector won't allow for a pool filter pump to be connected, the resistance being to much. Chlorine in combination with oxigene is another problem, it might cause corrosion.

The standard ST pool heater is therefore made of rubber. EPDM or a similar quality.
Check the www. for ST pool heating to get an overview.

    Hi,

The pool water should not be pumped through the solar panel there is a stainless steel heat exchanger for delivering the heat to the pool for the reason explained by heinbloed.

If you are using the correct controller rain should not be a problem because the pump will only activate when there is heat to be harvested from the solar panel.

Many installations use the solar for heating the hot water cylinder first then it turns to heating the pool, of course you can use it for the pool only but always through a heat exchanger.
