Am I the only one who can hear that in Spangler's voice?

    I didn't, but I do now :)

His accent is fairly strange alright, considering he's American. Sometimes sounds Russian or German.

Question is...what's he gonna do? Wouldn't surprise me if he defied the clover...

^ that info was posted a couple of weeks before the show ended, it's been discounted, wait until AMC green lights.

Seems that it's been cancelled. Hadn't BBC picked it up over here? Looked interesting but given it ends on a never to be resolved cliffhanger, I won't be bothering with it.

    Officially cancelled.

    Fúck you AMC.
To be fair to AMC, they have so few original series that it was bound to happen sooner or later.

I wouldn't say "f**k you AMC", I'd say "f**k you, the fickle american viewing public who'd rather watch dancing with pandas (or whatever) instead of quality drama".

    Maybe. I'm just venting.

Mad Men and Breaking Bad prove you very wrong.

Mad Men and Breaking Bad prove you very wrong.

Its not the same breaking bad has bryan cranston and is alot more up tempo and in your face then rubicon was. Mad men i am yet to watch so i cant comment but i had feeling rubicon would not last as it was not fast paced enough for your typical american tv show fan.

Low ratings where down to viewers getting bored with the story as it wasnt action packed and full of sex

By the way i happen to love breaking bad i have mad men waiting to be watched and have already started get into the walking dead. I just think its a shame a slow paced story driver show with a great cast and some very solid acting which was really starting to get into full swing will never be fully shown as it wasnt dumbed down enough for your typical viewer.

I was expecting this, the ratings were just not there. I did like the show on a pacing and intelectual level.

So in the context of the cancellation is it worth watching the 1st season? I have all 13 episodes queued up but haven't gotten around to watching any of them. If the ending leaves a bazillion open threads and plot points, I'm not sure I'd want to get invested in it...

I hope you forummers reconsider and resolve to watch the show. It's one of the best pieces of work you'll ever see. So what if it doesn't tie everything up neatly like you might wish, life isn't like that is it?
For what's it's worth, it doesn't cop out at the end, but brings things to a conclusion that I at least was satisfied with. I can't see what a second season would add to it to be honest.

Thanks, that's the answer I was looking for. FWIW, I don't expect everything to be neatly tied up (except for odd exceptions where the writers know way in advance that the show is coming to an end and can plan for it) but there is a pretty big difference between a fairly open-ended but satisfying ending and a complete "oh, let's no answer anything and create a bazillion new questions for season 2 which we are not getting" ending...

A good example of this was this summer's "Persons Unknown", which was dead in the water early on, kept promising answers and then had a final episode that wiped out everything that came before it, resetting everything back to square one. It was a colossal waste of time...

Of course I expect more from "Rubicon" since it was on AMC anyway but was just wondering if the ending is in any way satisfying and relevant to the rest of the season or if it goes nowhere. Seems I'll be catching up on it over Christmas when there's nothing on...

I just finished watching it tonight, and I'd agree with groovie, it does have a decent ending, not complete cliff hanger stuff, though it was open to what would come next. Definitely worth watching, even with being cancelled. It's no Flash Forward or The Event, that's for sure.

I had no idea this was even on the rocks, I'd been saving up episodes for the last few weeks, and just assumed it was solid for a 2nd series. It was a slow starter, but got interesting very quickly.

Just finsihed the series, I'd been watching it for over the past three months at about a weekly pace, starting a few weeks after it launched and hence why I'd been stalking this thread for a while for fear of catching the spoiler stink.

Easily the most interesting show of the year and the slow burn gave everything so much weight and pathos, things so deficent in most other shows. James Badge Dale's really had a comeback year -- I only remembered him from his stint as Chase Edmuds in season 3 of 24 -- with this and The Pacific, which in a sad way now go together as two fantastic self-contained mini-series, he's delivered more than a few memorable moments this year. Truxton, Tanya, Maggie, Kale, Miles and even Grant were all interesting and compelling characters and the show always managed to dleivery something worth your time.

We can only speculate at this point, but I'd imagine Truxton's huge ego (he specifically gave Will the Kateb case knowing he was investigating David's death) would prevent him from going out without a fight. I'd think that with Katerine Rohmer's death James would have become a more central character in a second season, with his mailing of the photograph being integral to exposing the group.

Will passing the burden to Miles, just as David had done in his own way with Will at the beginning of the series, did a fine job of bringing us back to the start before we reached what turned out to the ultimate end.

The most common thread in the show is obviously the burden that these characters' work (Truxton included) puts on them and the half lifes they consequently have to lead to do what they're skilled at. It certainly shone a light on what it means to be an analyst better than anything I'd ever seen.

Anyways, if anyone still is on the fence about watching the show because it has only one series - for God's sake stop being dramatic and just watch it!

I think this thread is much like the series, a slow burner....over time it gathered more people watching it and appreciating it. I'd +1 the idea if folks have the time, are patient, appreciate a slow burner that kicks off after episode 5, and invest in the complex storylines you'll have invested your time well.

I watched the full series over the last 3 days, and I really loved it. Now I feel even worse that it was cancelled. I started episode 10 at 11pm last night, and finished up at 3am - I just had to see how it ended.

There is a decent amount of closure on the main story, but it was left wide open for a second season. It may have better if they had filmed an alternative ending to the series where
Will turned his back on Truxton on the rooftop, and turned back to find he had gone over the edge, leaving the clover behind
. It would have given far better closure than the "Publish your report, no-one gives a shit" ending", which was probably the most frustrating line in the whole show (why would no-one give a shit?)

They probably couldn't have done that anyway because the show wasn't cancelled until a month after the last episode aired.

I guess we'll never know where the story would have gone next.

Absolutely, wholeheartedly recommend this show if you're on the fence. A well rounded, well acted TV show with great characters and a terrific story. In these days of paper-thin police procedurals and tired melodrama, you won't find many better shows from 2010.

I took that line more as Truxton not really caring if it came out at that point, because he had more primary concerns. Indeed he'd probably find some satisfaction in the rest of the group suffering and may have been in some sense goading Will into doing it. He'd obviously also have alot of resentment towards Will since he started the chain reaction that lead to Truxton's life, job and status being put in danger and wouldn't want to give him any satisfaction for his work. That line stuck with me too because it's strange, but then so is Truxton.

very disappointed when this got axed
it was a slow burner but was unmissable after the 4th or 5th episode as the plot thickened
i tried to get others in work to watch it but they didn't like it, philistines!
i still don't know what exactly happened in the last episode and would love a summarisation or the scripts for the next season if their were any

I've posted this before but it is one of my favourite scenes from any tv show ever made:

SPOILER FOR THOSE WHO HAVE NOT SEEN EPISODE 4

Just after watching the entire series over the last two days and what an impressive piece of storytelling it was. Loved how everything started coming together nicely in the last few episodes, the slow build up really gave weight to it as the pace picked up. Wasn't mad on the ending as a series finale but there was definitely enough answers for the "main" conspiracy to make it worth watching.

As for some of the unanswered stuff; really would like to know more about Ingram, like what really is his angle with helping Will and his tie to Maggie. And also what's the story with Andy... And Spangler seemed to imply a bigger conspiracy at work.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 1,103 ✭✭✭seadnamac

Just watched all of this over the last week or two. Thoroughly enjoyed it, very interesting, engaging stuff. To think they axed this and kept the steaming pile of rubbish that is The Killing makes me truly despair (I know another poster in this thread who will agree with that!). I was perfectly satisfied with how it ended, I don't think a neatly packaged ending would have suited what the show was and the subject matter involved. For me it had just the right amount of resolution and ambiguity.

Ps. Regarding Spanglers line of "see if anyone gives a ****", I took that as him being confident that he would be able to dismiss it as a ridicolous conspiracy theory against him, a man of his resources wouldn't be without a contingency plan.

    I don't know.

I loved the show but I thought the last episode was kind of stupid so maybe it's better they didn't get a chance to continue in that vein (at least that's what I tell myself:(). I thought the second last episode was brilliant and the way it ended with Will alone, crying after the attack would have been a much much stronger way to end the show. But, then again, if it had finished up that way the cancellation would have been waaay more crushing.

That middle run of episodes was really something though.
