Ulster Bank and the disappearing Laser symbol

Received my replacement ATM/debit card from Ulster Bank last week. Obviously this one sports a Visa Debit logo but no Laser logo. The accompanying leaflet explains everything except why they seem to be no longer apart of the Laser scheme.

Obviously it functions as a debit card but does anyone know why they have opted out of using the Laser logo. It seems odd that they would do this if only from a marketing point of view.

Simply, Laser isn't a logo, it's a whole system between banks: one that Ulster are not using any more.

Think of it in reverse: Laser Cards didn't have Visa Debit logo's on them, because they weren't part of the Visa payment system.

Visa Debit is more widely accepted. It can be used on a vast amount of online stores.

You still have all the functions of a Laser ie cash back etc but Visa Debit is a much better card.

Laser only works in Ireland, Visa Debit works all around the world..

its a no brainer to be honest, very glad to have just received my new visa debit card!
